Four movements from the end of the “Passion†section of Considering Matthew Shepard we hear from a deer. It has been well established that Matt loved the outdoors and it is fitting that a deer should sing “All night I lay there beside you, I cradled your pain in my care.†The women sing this delicate text accompanied by three soprano soloists who bring the breeze and the hope of redemption.

Georg Kreisler - that's sharp, profoundly dark humor! The Singphoniker have arranged Georg Kreisler's most famous songs for male ensemble and recorded on CD. The corresponding sheet music edition for female choir SSAA with piano accompaniment was published by Schott Music (Georg Kreisler - Lieder und Chansons, ED22736). In addition to this, individual editions of all songs from the sheet music album are available: Why are people so cowardly? After social criticism resignation follows. Kreisler's otherwise humoristically critical style leads to the simple question: Why? He asks about the cause of sloth, docility and social adaptation. The demand for breaking out of this lethargy, which is rather halfhearted, concludes the work.

This Ojibwa text, adapted by the composer, explores the beloved “flower of the forest, Sky-treading bird of the prairie, wonderful fawn-eyed one.” Opening with a joyful fanfare-like exclamation of the word “Awake” and ending as though in soaring flight, this is an excellent selection for advanced women's choir repertoire.
