Regarded as the greatest Spanish composer of the 20th century Manuel De Falla (1876-1946) had a distinctively nationalistic style.Cantares De Nochebuena was written c.1903 making it one of his earlier works. It is a collection and arrangement of 9 traditional folksongs for Christmas Eve originally from the Andalusian region of southern Spain. They were probably gathered in the city of Cadiz.The songs are scored for solo Voice and Guitar. In an attempt to imitate the simplistic nature of the source material the Guitar part is relatively easy requiring only a handful of different chords.

The purpose is to correct through the comparison with the autographs the many alterations of the text that are in the first (and unique) Peer edition of 1953. Since this is an educational collection a great importance is given to fingerings. However it is meant in a colourful way often non predictable with various passages or single notes in high positions with an expressive purpose aiming at increasing the value of these Preludes written in a simple language clear but full of slight nuances. Obviously these fingerings are only suggestions and they can be adapted to the many technical and educational needs. In this edition we have preferred to use the original title 6 Preludios Fáciles and not the one used in the 1953 edition 6 Preludios Cortos.This edition has to be considered an homage to Manuel María Ponce for the 70th anniversary of his death.
