Bill Holman, well known for his solo features, originally arranged this iconic tenor saxophone feature, 'Out of Nowhere,' for Bill Perkins and the Stan Kenton Orchestra in the mid '50s. Set as an up-tempo swing, the tenor saxophone is featured throughout and has lots of solo space to make this tune its own. Combine that with a cookin' rhythm section and great swinging ensemble passages, this chart is really happening! This new Finale edition provides cleaner, more correct parts and is easier to read with better page turns. This 'pro' version is the original chart requiring 10-brass. Brass ranges are reasonable in both versions (highest note for trumpet is a written D). 5-5-5-3.

Bob has created an absolutely thrilling 12 minute work, inspired by his Celtic roots (Towednack is a small area in Cornwall, England). The Celtic influence is heard in the triple-meter settings and the interlude which reflects back on a Riverdance style of music. Tenor sax is featured. Very much in the genre of his Metheny/Mays charts of the past. Commissioned by Riverside Community College (CA) Performed at the August, 1999 Kenton Sounds concert in Los Angeles. No w.w. doubles. This is a wonderful, easy-swing chart on a great standard, set at a moderate tempo. Bill wrote this for and recorded this on his album Bill Holman's Great Big Band (Capitol and Mosaic). It features a tenor and trumpet solo, and terrific ensemble sections for which Bill Holman is very well known. This chart should be very accessible for most bands. 5-4-4-3 (with 2 optional french horn parts).
