En 1965, Sinatra enregistré la rétrospective septembre de mes années et a marqué des hits avec des inconnus dans la nuit et My Way. Norge i rødt, hvitt og blått ('Norway in Red, White and Blue') was commissioned by the Oslo Fagott Choir (yes, that is indeed a gay men?s choir) for a concert with The Staff Band of the Armed Forces in 2015. I was given artistic licence to write a more modern and somewhat ?eclectic? arrangement for this originally Swedish melody written by Lars-Erik Larsson, which became something of a national liberation anthem when Nazi occupation ended in May 1945 ? then with new lyrics by Finn Bø, Bias Bernhoft and Arild Feldborg. After the premiere in Oslo, and a music video with Oslo Fagott Choir and The Staff Band, broadcasted by Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK) on Constitution Day during coronavirus lockdown in 2020, I was approached by many to write an instrumental version of the arrangement for concert band. Arr. Peter Kleine Schaars. For many years Peter Kleine Schaars’ jazz quartet provided sparkle and energy for various festivities and other occasions. If required the ensemble could alternate jazz repertoire with pop and latin music too. Their wide experience taught the musicians that an hour of unbeatable repertoire is the perfect end to every swinging party. Arr. Ron Sebregts. The title song to the 1992 film The Bodyguard, I Will Always Love You, written by Dolly Parton and sung by Whitney Houston spent over 10 weeks at number one in the UK charts. Par VAN DER ROOST JAN. I Shall Love But Thee est une « oeuvre d’occasion » dans l’un des sens littéraux du mot, puisqu’elle fut écrite à l’occasion du mariage du fils cadet du compositeur. Les textes de William Shakespeare ont inspiré Jan Van der Roost à écrire de la musique profonde et attrayante qui, au niveau du style, nous rappelle Henry Purcell (dans la première partie) et Georg Friedrich Haendel (dans la deuxième moitié), deux compositeurs qui ont mis en musique des textes de Shakespeare, bien qu’on n’y retrouve pas de citations littérales. La jalousie peut déclencher de nombreuses émotions qui vont de la déception, de la peine et du regret à la colère ou à la folie. Toutes ces émotions ont trouvé leur place dans cette composition, inspirée de trois formes d’art différentes : la poésie ( Elegy I ), la peinture ( La Jalousie - Edvard Munch) ; la chanson ( Je ne l’ose dire - Pierre Certon). Né en 1948 à Londres, Andrew Lloyd Webber a composé la musique de nombreuses comédies musicales célèbres dans le monde entier ; de l’opéra-rock Jesus Christ Superstar à Evita, Cats, Starlight Express et, bien entendu, The Phantom Of The Opera (Le Fantôme de l’Opéra) écrit en 1986. Dans les années 80, il compose également un superbe Requiem dont les airs Hosanna et Pie Jesu sont les plus connus du grand public. Andrew Lloyd Webber excelle dans la création de mélodies à succès, pleines de sensibilité et d’émotion, telles que Memory et Don’t Cry For Me Argentina, suscitant l’admiration à travers le monde. All I AskOf You, extrait de la comédie musicale The Phantom of the Opera est un duo interprété par deux personnages majeurs de la comédie musicale, Christine et Raoul. L’intrigue de l’histoire est basée sur le roman de l’écrivain français Gaston Leroux. Le personnage principal (Le Fantôme de l’Opéra) est un être étrange, défiguré et masqué qui vit et hante les sous-sols de l’Opéra de Paris. Son amour obsessionnel pour la jeune cantatrice Christine, le pousse à promouvoir sa carrière à tout prix. Mais quand il s’aperçoit qu’elle est éprise de Raoul, Vicomte de Chagny et ami d’enfance de la cantatrice, la fureur s’empare de lui. Il élabore de nombreux complots aussi terrifiants que dramatiques mais finit par cesser de poursuivre Christine et disparaît à jamais. All I Ask Of You a été repris, à juste titre, par divers grands interprètes dont Barbra Streisand, et de nombreux arrangements en ont été réalisés. Arr. Peter Kleine Schaars. The sisters Ruth, Anita and June Pointer from West Oakland in California learned how to sing in the sixties in church where their father was a minister. At the beginning of the 1970s they entered the music business, where they proved to have a mastery of many styles - including rhythm & blues, jazz, and country. However, the Pointer Sisters acquired international fame at the beginning of the eighties with their soul-like pop music. A great hit was the up-tempo number I’m So Excited, which is still a success on every dance floor.
