POD-Upheld By Stillness is a work for Unaccompanied SSSAATTBB Choir by composer Owain Park. A setting of the poem 'The World' by Kathleen Raine the piece lasts around 6 and a half minutes. Park describes the work as 'A reflection on the Sanctus and Benedictus from the Mass for five voices by William Byrd ' ...Some echoes of Byrd's music are incorporated in the piece including two sections marked 'quasi Hosanna' but the composer focuses mainly on creating various effective bi-tonal chord clashes to generate an appropriate atmosphere for the cosmic theme of the poem complete with star-like 'flickering'. - Geoffrey Webber Choir& Organ Magazine   

Revelation 21: 1-6a-Setting of Revelation 21: 1 6a commisioned by Soli Deo Gloria with support from Crossway Bibles and from the University of Chicago and premiered in June 2011 by the University of Chicago’s Rockefeller Chapel Choir and Motet Choir.A dramatic and powerful setting of an iconic text this work opens with a homophonic passage for full choir (divisi) with wide slow dynamic gradations and silences. Polyphonic sections alternate with further homophony; upper voices then usher in a very soft pasage over lower voice drones before a fortissimo ending derived from the work's beginning.

VOCES8 singles series-A standalone work for SATB choir and SATB solo quartet painting a picture of the different characters of a dream. This movement is both comforting and confusing and is inspired by the Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish. A New World is a musical story across five movements with texts by authors from Cicero and Ovid to George William Russel; from nursery rhymes to war poets. The music and texts link to form a narrative that questions what sort of ?New Worlds? have come into existence or could be created in our future and considers how we balance human traits of fear displacement isolation and conflict with equally human traits of love hope forgiveness and unity. American Traditional-The ?VOCES8 singles? series includes songs for which the group is particularly well known in choral arrangements produced specifically for VOCES8. This beautiful folk song was commissioned as part of our fifth anniversary celebrations in 2012 and was included in our EP ?In the Beginning? and on our US concert tour. It has always been a fun challenge to perform with gorgeous flowing lines and a great opening solo for the bass. Our annual visit to sing for friends in the Shenandoah Valley is never complete without a rendition of this arrangement; performing it at Abbey Road Studios (the film can be found on YouTube) was also an unforgettableexperience.

The Parting Glass. A 4-minute gently flowing arrangement by Joshua Pacey of the traditional Irish/Scottish song. Written for unaccompanied SSAATTBB with soprano and tenor solo. Score includes rehearsal piano reduction. First recorded on VOCES8?s2019 album Enchanted Isle.

Psalm 45 (46)-A setting of Psalm 45 (46) in Latin commissioned by the Leeds Festival Chorus and first performed by them in Leeds Town Hall in March 2014 conducted by Simon Wright. The work features a variety of choral and organ textures tempi and moods over its five-minute span in response to the vivid text. Suitable for advanced standard performers and in both sacred and secular contexts.

The sweeping melody line of Across The Vast Eternal Sky blends smoothly with a sense of symphonic chorale. The Silvestri text begins with the last words in Gjeilo's 2011 Tundra 'here painting a world of light'. An excellent centerpiece work for high school and beyond and a sure crowd pleaser! O'Shaughnessy, adapted by Jessica Duchen.Composer's NoteWhen the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain requested a short piece for their gala concert at Birmingham's Symphony Hall, I was particularly excited about the prospect of writing for 300 singers. A recent research trip to Estonia resulted in somewhat of a revelation: having heard and seen their world-renowned choirs in action (literally!) has resulted in We are the Music-Makers having the less mainstream 'surround-sound' of upper voices/junior choir at the back and sides of the audience and a further stereophonic double-choir on stage.This poem was sent to me by Tim Williams (my ex Head of English at school), and immediately seemed to fit this occasion. This text has already been set magnificently by Elgar, so partly to avoid any kind of comparison and also to bring its timeless message up to date, I asked my poet friend Jessica Duchen to give it a sligtly more contemporary feel.A poem about global music-making (which ties in with the NYCGB's recent World-Music CD), it speaks about humankind, nation to nation, and the mention of Babel inspiring a 'speakng of tongues' effect by using as many different international words for 'music' as possible as an accompaniment (not an easy task, as many of them are similar to our own word!). Paperback-Felix Mendelssohn's For He Shall Give His Angels Charge Over Thee for SSAATTBB unaccompanied.Written in 1844 in thanksgiving for the preservation of the life of the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm after an unsuccessful assassination attempt this is the original a cappella version of the well-known chorus from Elijah. This edition presents both English and German texts.

Trompeten Nachts und Untergang. Ørjan Matre?s Trompeten, Nachts und Untergang is a 26-minute work for solo trumpet and choir (SSAATTBB). It is based on texts by the Austrian poet Georg Trakl and describes distant trumpet sounds, decaying castle ruins and icy lakes, in the spirit of German Romanticism. Trompeten, Nachts und Untergang (Trumpets, Night and Downfall) was premiered by Norwegian trumpeter Tine Thing Helseth and the Norwegian Soloists' Choir (conductor: Grete Pedersen) at the Ultima Oslo Contemporary Festival in September 2020. This edition is the choral score (EP 14530) of the work. The trumpet part (EP 14530a) is available separately.

Voices written in memory of Fenno Heath (1926-2008) who served as the conductor of the Yale Glee Club for almost 40 years is based on a poem by Greek poet Cavafy best known for his poetic recreations of classic images of ancient Greece. This moving a cappella work uses both Greek (IPA pronunciation provided) and English texts.

Hail Gladdening Light was written at the request of Matthew Owens for the choir of Wells Cathedral and was first performed at Candlemas 2006. The composer has long been an admirer of the setting by Charles Wood and so wanted to create a work with a completely different atmosphere particularly focusing on mystical light. The opening and closing sections make use of the Gregorian Chant for Candlemas – a troped setting of the Nunc dimittis. Where these chanted sections occur they should be unconducted and sung with the freedom and tempo of plainsong. The emphasis throughout the whole piece should be on luminosity. This piece isfrom Faber's Choral Signature Series which introduces a wealth of new or recently written choral music to choirs in search of fresh repertoire. the series draws in a rich diversity of living composers and includes both lighter and more challenging contemporary works offering a thrilling array of varied styles.
