Salsa has become quite a dance craze. Its popularity has grown from the Cuban and Puerto Rican community to include most of the Americas Europe and even Japan. New Salsa bands are forming everywhere from New York to Los Angeles from Tokyo to Paris. After Pentangle split in 1973 Bert Jansch returned to his prolific solo career but missed playing in a group context. The Bert Jansch Conundrum came into existence as the 1970s waned. Jansch recorded a solo album called A Rare Conundrum in 1977 with mandolinist Rod Clements and fiddler Mike Piggott as supporting players. When Piggott was unable to go out on a Scandinavian tour Martin Jerkins hired on to play violin on the dates. They hit it off and Nigel Portman-Smith came aboard to play bass. They toured Europe and America. Bert recalled: ?I got to know Martin in that period between the original Pentangle splitting up and the beginning of the eighties. I knew him prettywell and we did a lot of gigs together. At one point we were playing with Rod Clements who used to be in Lindisfarne and Pick Withers on drums - I seem to remember Mike Piggott was involved as well; I?ve been in so many different line-ups I just can?t honestly remember!?The first part of this DVD collection presents Bert Jansch Conundrum in concert recorded in Athens Ohio. This is followed by three tunes by Bert and Martin recorded in 1978 in Stockholm Sweden. The DVD concludes with a documentary that Bert recorded in 1985 that combines interviews solo concert performances and rehearsals.

Les Suites del Plata s'inspirent de la suite de danses, forme instrumentale très en vogue pendant la période baroque, qui était une série de danses populaires de différentes parties de l'Europe, toutes liées par un élément mélodique-rythmique et précédées d'un prélude. Les Suites del Plata rassemblent des pièces musicales de la région connue sous le nom de 'La Cuenca del Plata', un vaste bassin autour du Rio de la Plata et ses affluents, dans lequel une riche et abondante variété de danses, de formes et de styles de musique populaire a émergé et existe encore aujourd'hui. La Suite n°5 débute par un prélude intitulé 'Desde el aire', moment aérien et léger. Il est suivi d'une pièce urbaine et changeante appelée 'Sarasa' dans laquelle tout est dit, ou rien... 'Gris llanura' (Plaine grise) nous emmène dans la solitude écrasante de la plaine pampéenne. 'Los lirios' (Les lys) est une valse créole inspirée et dédiée à ma propre maison. Pour clore l'oeuvre, nous trouvons 'Candombe final', une danse énergique d'origine uruguayenne qui nous aide à affronter la vie d'un autre endroit. Las Suites del Plata toman como modelo las Suite de Danzas, forma instrumental muy en boga durante el período Barroco, que era una serie de danzas populares de distintas partes de Europa, todas relacionadas por algún elemento melódico - rítmico y precedidas por un Preludio. Las Suites del Plata reúnen piezas musicales provenientes del área conocida como 'La Cuenca del Plata', una extensa geografía alrededor del Río de la Plata y sus afluentes, en la que surgió - y aún hoy conviven - una rica y abundante variedad de danzas, géneros y estilos populares. La Suite del Plata n°5 comienza con un Preludio titulado 'Desde el aire', una etérea y liviano momento. Le sigue una urbana y cambiante pieza llamada 'Sarasa' en la que todo se dice, o nada... 'Gris llanura' nos interna en la abrumadora soledad de la llanura pampeana. 'Los lirios' es un Vals criollo inspirado y dedicado a mi propio hogar.
