A fine chart for a concert, a festival, or a dance gig. A medium swing at 114 BPM, written solos are provided for alto, trombone 1, and piano. With great dynamics, sax solis, and a sweet shout chorus, this chart swings all by itself, and you'll love its voicings, too. Optional vibes. (4:04).

Yep, it's in 4/4 not 5/4. A clever chart on a super classic that everyone will recognize, young or old. The bossa nova tempo is around 130 BPM and there are written suggested solos for piano and alto sax. Lead trumpet range is to written B-flat above the staff, and an interlude reoccurs to offer contrast. It all works great! Take Five has been skillfully arranged by John Zontek. (4:50).

Recorded in 1968 by the Thad Jones-Mel Lewis Jazz Orchestra on their Monday Night album, this swingin' blues at a moderate tempo opens with an ad lib piano solo, then shifts immediately to a solo chorus for Harmon-muted trumpet. A Latin cha-cha groove at around 132 BPM. A hip tutti montuno sets the cha-cha feel in the intro followed by the same montuno played by the piano. The chart features written-out solos for tenor sax and trumpet 2, and the trumpet 1 range is to written E top space. It is fun, it's Latin and it will sound great!

One Cool Cat! features a playful melody sauntering along a beguiling chord progression in this enjoyable chart by Rob Vuono, Jr. The intro leads way to the cool sounds of trumpet and alto sax on melody, with tenor saxes and trombones later joining in on a counter melody. Much dialog and interplay between sections of the band is featured, and the piano gets to shine with oh-so-hip fills that are sure to bring a smile (all piano fills are fully notated with chord changes to ensure success). A solo section follows (any instrument may be featured here; suggested solos are provided), with swinging backgrounds adding some punch here and there. An impressive ensemble ensues after the solo section, leading to a brilliant shout chorus before alighting on the most purr-fect coda with grace and aplomb. One cool chart you just can’t miss!

The brilliance of Mike Tomaro's writing has never been more evident than in this medium advanced chart, where a swingin' melody leads into some wonderful ensemble passages and ample solo space for alto and piano. Duration ca. 6:50. Available in SmartMusic.

This is one very cool and tasty ballad. After a short 4 bar piano intro, the melody is played by a quartet made up of your strongest players - trumpet, alto, tenor and trombone. The whole Band joins in for some great ensemble work (trumpets never leave the staff) which leads into an easy but very hip piano solo. Then more great ensemble, and finally the piano is again featured at the end. The piano part is completely written out, and the right hand has a single note line throughout. There's nothing high, loud or fast here - but what a great way to impress and audience by showcasing your band's ability to play with A Gentle Touch.

Your band will love the jazz-rock groove of this new piece! As jazz spread north in the '30s and '40s from New Orleans, Kansas City became a major jazz hub, and this composition reflects the high energy and excitement of those times in a contemporary style. Driving rhythms and punchy ensemble riffs will make this one an audience favorite! The suggested minimum required instrumentation for the music in this series is 2 alto saxophones, 1 tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, 3 trumpets, 2 trombones, piano, bass and drums. Parts are included for standard instrumentation (5/4/4/4) and all charts include a CD with a full version and a solo practice track.
