German Baroque composer Johann Ludwig Krebs (1713 - 1780) was born in Buttelstedt and was sent to Leipzig to study with Johann Sebastian Bach. Considered one of Bach's finest students, many compositions of Krebs have been erroneously attributed to Bach. Krebs composed two concertos for lute and orchestra, including this Concerto in F Major in three movements: Allegro, Larghetto, and Allegro assai. This edition includes the full orchestral score, orchestral parts, as well as guitar and lute parts. Victor Van Puijenbroeck has adapted the original solo part and included in the set are parts for both lute (the part has been adapted from lute tablature to modern notation) and guitar (capotasto). Additionally, the solo parts feature two versions/interpretations. In the creative output of the Bach pupil Johann Ludwig Krebs, arrangements of chorales and freely composed works for organ and a second instrument occupy an important position. They offer a glimpse into the so-called figural music of the 17th and 18th centuries, which has its roots in Protestant church music and constitutes a major aspect of music and music making in worship services. Until now, Kreb's arrangement of the chorale Wie schon leuchtet der Morgenstern existed only as a fragment. The editor of the present edition discovered the remainder of the arrangement, which was previously missing, and was able to complete the fragment. Thus, the complete chorale arrangement, composed wholly in the spirit of Bach, is now available for performance for the first time.

The present edition of the trio sonatas by Johann Ludwig Krebs (1713-1780) is based on pp. 113-158 of a contemporary copy of the trio sonata collection which is held in the Sächsische Landesbibliothek, Dresden, shelf-mark Mus. 1-Q-1. The common title at the beginning of the first trio reads: Sechs Trio a 2 Flauti e Basso. In spite of the consistent indication of instrument in the source the music material of the second flute part suggests an alternative use of instruments. Apart from the characteristic string turns occurring in some places mention should be made of the range of voice up to g of the first trio sonata if the/in first place and particulary of theconsistently applied double stops of the second melodic instrument in the first movement of piece No. 6.
