Felix Blumenfeld (1863-1931) n'était pas seulement un compositeur bien connu, mais aussi un grand pianiste et professeur de renom. Un de ses élèves maîtres était Vladimir Horowitz. Comme chef d'orchestre du Théâtre Mariinsky, il a dirigé la première mondiale de la Symphonie #3 de Scriabine et son 'Poème de l 'Extase' ainsi que plusieurs opéras de son professeur Nikolay Rimsky-Korsakov, entre autres. Il a également dirigé la première russe de 'Tristan et Isolde' de Wagner. Le piano de Blumenfeld fonctionne mal tombé en disgrâce. As a consequent they exhibit a fairly narrow range in style and expressive intent, rather like a collection of short stories that take place in restricted time and location. I chose to call the set 'Preludes' partly because of the joy I still derive from sets with the same title, most notably those from Bach, Chopin and Rachmaninoff.'/ Répertoire / Piano
