From Songs Of Peace-The 14th-century Eucharistic text ‘Ave verum’ has been set to music by many composers over the centuries no doubt drawn to its vivid and powerful imagery. Todd first set the words (for SATB choir) in 2001 but this different setting is the fourth movement of a larger work Songs of Peace which was written in 2012 in memory of the composer’s mother. The unison first verse is introduces the beautiful melody which fits naturally into the lush harmony supplied in the piano part. A second often imitative part is added for the second verse though the piece doesn’t stray too far from its very approachable nature. There is occasional optional further divisi which adds extraharmonic effects when included.

This serene pairing of 'Still, Still, Still? and 'Silent Night? will be a quick learn during your busiest time of year.
