Composed by Rolf Løvland, who, inspired by traditional Irish melodies, asked Irish author and lyricist Brendan Graham to provide lyrics, the song has become a worldwide hit through pop artists such as Josh Groban and Westlife. The piece is in traditional ABA form, beginning with a lilting Irish jig, then a more lyrical and slow second theme. After returning to the jig, it ends with a climactic section where both themes are played together. It sounds much more difficult than it plays. In Irish Charms verarbeitete Henk Hogestein das ruhige, stimmungsvolle irische Lied Believe Me, if All those Endearing Young Charms.
