Music Of Our Time. Par SCHNEBEL DIETER. In this work Schnebel attempts to apply the idea of the Baroque canon - as exemplified in Bach’s ‘Art of Fugue’ - to modern concepts of tonal colouring. The ‘Motu proprio’ of the 7 mixed groups of orchestral instruments intensifies within 28 short emotional sections to the Baroque ‘Motu contrario’. In ‘Diapason’, literally translated ‘in the octave’ but in the ancient Greek music tradition taken to mean ‘through or across everything’ among other things, the orchestra is arranged into 13 groups according to families of instruments and tonal colour. Schnebel alternately uses the term ‘fugue’ in the strict sense of the Baroque period and in its more general, purely architectonic meaning./ Répertoire / Orchestre

Besançon, la 'Ville du temps', m'a inspiré le titre de cette, pièce pour grand orchestre, commande du Festival de Besançon pour la finale du Concours International des Jeunes Chefs d'Orchestre. D'un ostinato rythmique obsédant marquant le début de l'oeuvre, jusqu'au temps suspendu de la fin, la partition explore les diverses dimensions du temps, utilisant de complexes superpositions rythmiques menées au paroxysme, les ruptures, les suspensions, les silences, etc... De la scansion parfois insupportable et inexorable du temps à la dimension du 'hors-temps' se crée ainsi une texture animée de courants divers et de dynamiques fluctuantes, ponctuée de brusques impacts. Cette réflexion sur le temps en révèle toute la relativité et prend racine dans mon propre univers où ce questionnement est continuellement présent.
