Arrangements for the piano, transcriptions and opera paraphrases take up a large part in Franz Liszt's complete ouvre. He even arranged scenes from the music dramas of Richard Wagner. The transcription of 'Lied an den Abendstern' comes from the third act of the romantic opera Tannhauser und der Sangerkrieg auf Wartburg. In his transcription of 1849 Liszt kept exactly to Wagner's original but he divided the scene into 'Recitative' and 'Romance'. He transposed the piece to the keys of G sharp minor and A flat major, which sound warmer on the piano and which also allow for a more easy-to-play romantic piano setting. Liszt uses the cantilena of the violoncellos in Wagner's original as tonal highlight with octaves in the descant. A transcription that is beautiful to listen to for both pianist and audience and perfectly suitable for concert performances and recitals.

The series Morgen kommt der Weihnachtsmann has been conceived for making music together in the Christmas season. Special emphasis is placed on duet playing with 2 identical instruments: with 2 violins (ED 5475), 2 violas (ED 7935), 2 violoncellos (ED 5548), 2 descant recorders (ED 7934), and 2 flutes (ED 8026). Since words have been set to the upper part (melody part), the obvious thing to do would be to perform the pieces with voice and accompaniment. The settings are easy so that even musicians with little practice can play along. This series includes two editions for piano which can be combined with all instrumental volumes: In addition to the known very easy edition for piano beginners with mainly two-part settings in five-note range ('very easy', ED 5325), there is for the first time a more sonorous two- or three-part edition for moderately advanced players ('easy to intermediate', ED 22507). This new edition is ideal for accompanying the instrumental parts.

Victoria Yagling (1946-2011) was born in Russia and lived in Finland since 1990. Her long career as a cellist served as an excellent accompaniment to the composition she began at an early age. For 11 years she was a cello student of Mstislav Rostropovich at the Moscow Conservatory and Dmitry Kabalevsky and Tikhon Khrennikov taught her composition. Yagling won the first prize in the Gaspar Cassado Cello Competition and the following year the second prize in the Moscow Tchaikovsky Competition. Her solo engagements took her to countless countries. She has also taught at several international music courses and master classes and was often a jury member for international cello competitions. Yagling left a profilic oeuvre, and the three cello concertos are her main works. Her other orchestral works include Finnish Notebook, Lyrical Preludes and the Suite for Cello and String Orchestra. She has also composed solo works (e.g. the Suite for Cello Solo No. 1 chosen as an obligatory piece for the 7th Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow in 1982), chamber works, including two string quartets, and vocal music. Her expressive, romantically orientated style is Russian in spirit and has grown out of the soil provided by Prokofiev and Shostakovich. Yagling was a skillful pianist, able to master works of such a level as Chopin's Etudes. The amount of her piano works surpasses five hours of music.

The concertos in A minor, B flat major and A major were first written as violoncello concertos between 1750 and 1753. They thus rank among the very first concertos for solo cello in Germany. The A minor Concerto, composed in 1750, is performed quite frequently today. C. P. E. Bach most likely wrote the Concerto in B flat major Wq. 171 as the last of the little work group in 1753 in Potsdam, at the court of King Frederick the Great. He reworked the composition for flute and harpsichord shortly thereafter. Various sources prove that copies of the work had made it known quite extensively in the second half of the 18th century. In his new Urtext edition, Ulrich Leisinger bases himself on two reliable manuscripts.
