Ces 24 duos de Benoît-Tranquille Berbiguier ont été sélectionnés parmi les 13 Leçons chantantes pour se former à l'exécution qui constituent elles-mêmes l'article 24 de sa Nouvelle Méthode pour la Flûte. Le mot leçon n'est pa anodin car ces petits duos sont en fait regroupés par armure (deux dans la gamme majeure de l'armure séparés par un dans la gamme mineure) et précédés par la gamme, que nous n'avons pas reproduite, et que B. nous recommande de travailler soigneusement ! Afin de proposer un ensemble cohérent dans ce niveau de la fin du Cycle I, nous n'avons gardé que les duos dans les tons jusqu'à trois altérations, en prenant soin toutefois de transposer ceux qui nous sont apparus les plus intéressants dans les armures plus importantes. It's amazing what 'big” music, these two small instruments can cope with - indeed, in the eighteenth century the flute duet was almost the gramophone record of the time as countless operatic arias were brought to the public in arrangements for this pairing. To this day Eugène Bozza (1905-1991) remains one of the most prolific composers for wind instruments despite being a violinist himself. His Three Evocations for 2 Flutes is an exquisite addition to the repertoire. During his studies at the Paris Conservatoire Bozza won prizes for Violin conducting and composition as well as the Grand Prix de Rome. He then conducted the orchestra of the Opéra-Comique and became Head of the Conservatoire in Valenciennes whilst remaining a prominent composer. Bozza's Three Evocations are exciting duets containing much musical variation andcontrast suitable for advanced flautists. As music educationalist Paul Griffiths has written of Bozza's compositions 'his works reveal melodic fluency elegance of structure and a consistently sensitive concern of instrumental capabilities.'
