Born in Toulouse Marcel Bitsch (1921-2011) went on to study at the Paris Conservatoire before becoming a professor of counterpoint at the institution. As an exceptionally versatile composer Bitsch has composed orchestral works chamber works and numerous pieces and studies for wind instruments. Villageoise is a sublime addition to the Alto Saxophone repertoire. Suited to intermediate level saxophonists Bitsch's Villageoise published in 1953 contains a range of exciting musical aspects including varied articulation modulation changes in time signature and much variation indynamics tempo and performance directions. The diversity of musical elements included in this Marcel Bitsch work for Alto Saxophone and Piano is outstanding creating a necessary addition to the intermediate saxophonist's repertoire.

Suite for Alto Saxophone and Piano by Paul Bonneau was composed in 1944. Written in four short movements: 1. Improvisation 2. Danse des démons 3. Plainte 4. Éspièglerie Suite for Alto Saxophone and Piano is reminiscent of the early 20th century French Neoclassicism. This suite could be played by advanced-intermediate and advanced players as the technicality is not too strong. Paul Bonneau (1918-1995) is a French classical composer. He adapted and wrote 11 ballets/operettas and arranged some pieces by Offenbach.

Saxophone Alto Et Piano-My First Eight Solos by Armando Ghidoni is a set of eight Alto Saxophone solos for beginners with Piano accompaniment. These pieces all quite melodic and entertaining enable young players to work on solo pieces aside from the regular studies and exercises. The solos also appear in order of increasing difficulty:  1. Although many outstanding composers have written for the saxophone its comparatively late invention leaves a great void in its literature - namely that of pre-20th Century music. Ballade Et Divertissement by Armando Ghidoni is a piece for Alto Saxophone and Piano. It can also be played by Tenor or Soprano Saxophone. Starting with an Adagio section (tempo = 60) the piece features a solo cadenza for the Saxophone which is followed by a Moderato part. Sérénade italienne (Saxophone-Alto & Piano)-Romantic Piece is a set of 6 pieces edited in 6 volumes starting with Volume 1. Italian Serenade. Composed by Robert Planel for Alto Saxophone and Piano this first piece is for intermediate players. With a slow tempo to start this romantic melody then evolves at about 160. The six volumes of this set are: 1. Italian Serenade 2. Dancers 3. Sad Song 4. Feeling Waltz 5. Christmas story 6. Muleteer’s song Robert Planel (1908-1994) was a French musician and pedagogue.

It is an early attempt in my work at magnifying the barriers between sound and silence, exploring the extreme ranges of pianissimo sounds in the saxophone that seem to appear without recognizable transition out of nothing. Glissandi, sliding tones, have always fascinated me, and in this piece I applied for the first time my ideas about pitch slides in a composition. These two qualities - the absence of a recognizable boundary between soft and inaudible sound, and the absence of a stationary pitch by employing glissandi - were soon to become something of a basis of my compositional aesthetic for many years. It was in Music for Saxophone and Piano that these ideas seem to have first germinated. The architecture of this piece employs a simple binary form, but the halves are stylistically diametrically opposed, creating a dialectical pair, the serene and elegiac character of the second half being born out of the high point and cathartic event of the first half. French composer Robert Planel (1908-1994) was the son of composer and founder of the Music School of Montelimar Alphonse Planel. Robert Planel was an exceptionally accomplished musician reflected in his composition Prelude and Saltarelle for Alto Saxophone and Piano. It is hard to fathom why Prelude and Saltarello has somewhat disappeared from the repertoire. With a typical performance lasting about seven minutes Planel's pieces is made up of two movements. The Prelude begins calm and while tonality is exploited and significantly complex flourishes are heard therelationship between the Saxophone and Piano remains exquisite. The movement then climaxes into the 6/8 Saltarello. Planel's Prelude and Saltarello is an exciting addition to the modern repertoire of the Saxophone and cannot be missed by aspiring saxophonists.

Book 2-The Light Touch is a fabulous collection of graded pieces for Alto Saxophone and Piano. The two volumes have been edited by Gordon Lewin. This is the second book for intermediate to advanced players from grade 4 all the way to grade 8. There are five glorious examples of Light saxophone music in various styles all of which are characterised by the light touch!

8 Konzertstücke für Altsaxophon und Klavier-The pieces in Vienna Boulevard are written by young Austrian composers who continue the old tradition of Vienna as a music metropolis. These easy to intermediate pieces cover a wide range of styles and so are ideal for working on aspects such as dynamics phrasing and articulation. At the same time they are excellent performance pieces. On the enclosed CD professional musicians have recorded their interpretation of each piece as an example; then every player is invited to give his or her own interpretation with the play-along version. The piano accompaniment allows you to play the pieces together with a pianist which is educationally even more valuable.

French composer Vincent Paulet (b. 1962) studied at the Paris Conservatoire. His Antiphone for Alto Saxophone and Piano is a challenging yet exciting addition to the repertoire. A typical performance of Paulet's Antiphone lasts around four minutes and fifteen seconds. It is a highly modern work addressing features of fast semiquaver passages exploited tonality extended techniques chromaticim and complex rhythms among other aspects. The extended techniques include multiphonic sounds flutter tonguing and slap notes. For all advanced saxophonists Paulet's Antiphoneis an essential modern addition to the repertoire.

Composed for the Paris Conservatoire contest this edition of Musique De Concert by Marius Constant is for Alto Saxophone and Piano and was dedicated to Marcel Mule. Rated difficult (8°) this piece demonstrates all the required skills to brilliantly pass the contest. < strong>Concert music is divided in four distinct movements each with a different style: I. Toccata – Lento (4/4 tempo 69) II. Aria – Largo (3/4 tempo 50) III. Ostinato – Allegro Molto (12/8 tempo 168) IV. Intermezzo – Allegro moderato (4/4 tempo 144) V. Variazoni – Deciso (5/4 4/4 3/4 4/4 6/4 tempo minim 80) Marius Constant (1925-2004) was a French composer born in Romania. He composed three operas an oratorio seven ballets and many pieces for orchestra. His most famous work is the “Twilight Zone” theme song.
