London Brass Band Series-Leslie Pearson's Christmas Is Coming scored for 3 Trumpets 3 Trombones Tuba 2 Percussion Organ and Keyboard. 'When I set out to arrange traditional Christmas carols I was determined that they should not be yet another run-of-the-mill strophic verse-by-verse version of our Christmas heritage. I have tried to treat each carol in the collection as the basis for a Petite Fantasie - a continuous single-movement of variations on the original tune. Of course the carol is heard in its traditional form at some point during the arrangement but hopefully its appeal is enhanced without destroying the traditional concept. Inparticular White Christmas Silent Night and the middle sections of Hark the Herald and Christmas is Coming have the soft 'lush' treatment. Christmas is Coming has a humorous opening and a 'Noblimente' end. The collection is in all a delightful mixture of musical styles through the ages.' Leslie Pearson

Felix-Alexandre Guilmant-Amédée (Boulogne-sur-Mer March 12 1837 - Meudon March 29 1911) was a French composer and organist. Like many other composers he was very talented on a young age he was 12 years when he was playing organ smoothly. He studied with Lemmens with Charles-Marie Widor and Gigout. Between 1871 and 1901 he the leading man in the Paris organ scenery along with his fellow students later on he teached at the Paris Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique inter alia Joseph Bonnet and Marcel Dupre. Known are his organ sonatas which are equivalent to the famous organ symphonies of Widor. His work was very popular. Also knownunder the title Morceau Symphonique Opus 88.

Christmas Cantata (Sinfonia Sacra) the most famous piece of Daniel Pinkham composed in 1957 is a church composition for Chorus Double Brass and Organ. Written in Latin. Accessible to good high-school and college singers the opening statement is sung by the whole SATB chorus followed by the Allegro section which is rhythmically quite complicated. The middle section is sung by Sopranos and Altos while the Rondo which is part of the final part is sung by the whole SATB its verses being interpreted by the different groups.Daniel Pinkham (1923-2006) is an American composer organist and Harpsichordist. Most ofhis compositions were related to church music and his best known works are the Christmas Advent and Wedding Cantatas.

Enfin certains historiens affirment qu?Adeste Fideles aurait été écrit par un poète anonyme français sous le règne de Louis XIV.Quoiqu?il en soit il est communément reconnu que les strophes ont été écrites ou découvertes par l?Anglais John Francis Wade (vers 1710-1786) alors qu?il travaillait en tant que chercheur et copiste à Douai en France. La première version imprimée du cantique date des années 1740. Elle fut ensuite intégrée au recueil Cantus Diversipublié en 1751.Catholique laïc John Francis Wade fuit l?Angleterre en proie à des persécutions religieuses. Vers 1731 il copiait des manuscrits de plain-chant au Collège dominicain de Borhem en Flandre. Plus tard il s?installa à Douai dans le Nord de la France forteresse de la foi catholique où le roi d'Espagne Philippe II avait fondé une université en 1559. ‘Jubilant Prelude’ is an orchestration of the ‘Preludium over Psalm 150’ originally composed for organ by Toon Hagen. Since 1998 Toon Hagen has been organ-player of the ‘Grote or Sint Michaëlskerk’ in Zwolle (the Netherlands). He has written several ‘contemporary’ compositions for organ.‘Jubilant Prelude’ has a capricious character by the use of irregular measures and its many measure changes. The structure of the Prelude is that of a fugue and is based on motives from the psalm.After the first climax which is both dynamic and harmonic the theme in the Andante Jubiloso is clearly audible and it is alternated with erratic motifs. Tension increases until at last the psalm itself isheard in all its glory. The melody of the psalm sounds as a cantus firmus in tenor register with motifs in ornamentation for saxophones bugles and trumpets. The finale like the prelude is capricious and vehement.The instrumentation for brassband was made by Dirk Annema. It is particularly colourful and has a surprising role for the percussion section.

The composition Kefas was written for the brass band 'Apollo' from Grou (The Netherlands) by order of the Unisono Foundation the organisation for wind music in The Netherlands.The assignment was given on account of earning the Champions Title during the Dutch Brass Band Championships in the year 2001 (4th division). The theme of the composition links the tradition of the village Grou not to celebrate Sint Nicolaas but Sint Pieter.By this typical Dutch festivity (in December) the holy Nicolaas gives presents to the children. It is a popular custom where young and old participate. Grou is the only place where this is not done by Sint Nicolaas but by Sint Pieter.Apart from that on the 22th of Februari a lot of festivities that take place resemble those of the Sinterklaas celebration. In the composition two Sint Pieter songs are processed set through bible scenes wherein in among others the visit of Christ to the house of Peter's Mother-in-law and the calling of Peter are depicted. The title refers to the pronouncement of Christ where he named Peter the rock on which he shall build his church. The Hebrew word for rock is Kephas. Kefas was premiered in 2003.
