A terrific piece to be sung during the washing of the feet on Holy Thursday! The refrain, based on John 12, and the verses, drawn from Psalm 146, will draw your assembly‚ attention to the essence of this ritual moment: service to those in need. The texts here are adapted from the Rite of Ordination of a Deacon..

A beautiful sung blessing featuring an ostinato refrain. The chanted opening and concluding prayers should be sung by a cantor in a prayerful manner that clearly communicates the text. Especially appropriate when used as a blessing on those embarking on significant work on behalf of Christ’s mission.choir supports the assembly’s ostinato refrain. The molto rit. at measure 38 is very important in order to signal to the assembly the end of the ostinato. Listen to this piece and follow the score in the video below:

Mikey Needleman wrote the energetic praise song All for You as the title track to his CD (008392). This piece reflects Mikey's faith in a loving God. Thie enthusiasm he embodies in performance is compelling to the young and young-at-heart. Written for ensembles of any size, this song can be effecgive with smaller bands since it relies on straightforward, driving guitar and a minimum of two voices. The refrain is readily learned and is an enthusiastic response to the spirited verses.

The call-and-response nature of the refrain makes assembly participation about as easy as possible, the women of the choir support the assembly and the men provide a bit of easy harmony, all over a relaxed accompaniment. While not requiring an exceptionally large vocal range, the cantor should ideally have a solid low range (down to a low A) with the ability to sustain the upper D at a couple of points in the verses. For cantor or soloist.

Sung for years as an alternative memorial acclamation at Sunday liturgies, Deiss'Â well-known refrain is coupled with verses that sing a strong reminder that Christ saves us by his death and resurrection and brings joy even in the midst of sorrow. Works well for the opening procession, the communion procession, or the Song of Farewell during the Rite of Final Commendation. Assemblies know this piece by heart.
