Requiem K.626 The Requiem completed by Franz Xaver Süssmayr in its traditional form. Mozart’s final work the Requiem K.626 was left incomplete and it is fraught with questions and emotions: the expressive depth of its music sorrow at the great composer’s early death truth and legend fragments and attempts to complete the work. The completion of the fragmentary score by his assistant Franz Xaver Süssmayr who helped him with The Magic Flute has the character of a historical source with utmost closeness to Mozart’s thoughts. - Urtext of the New MozartEdition - Full score (BA4538-01) performance material (BA4538) vocal score (BA4538-90) and study score format 22.5 x 16.5cm (TP152) available for sale - Facsimile edition BVK2346

Mozart?s Requiem has entered the realm of myth. This is surely the best-known of all sacred choral works and is performed all over the world. Now a new version for solo voices chorus and organ allows this legendary masterpiece to be performed without orchestra and thus without strain on the budget. The choral writing has been taken unaltered from the Urtext of the New Mozart Edition while the organ part by Martin Focke adheres strictly to the original orchestral writing. No other work by Mozart is so enshrouded in myth as his final composition the D-minor Requiem. Mozart died before its completion and the missing sections had to be added by others. The many handwritten copies circulated after his death added to the corruption of the text by contributing errors of their own. Now Peters is publishing a new urtext edition of this staple of the choral repertoire edited by David Black. The edition relies on Mozart’s composition and the traditional completion by Franz Xaver Süssmayr. For the first time however it incorporates sources previously unavailable to earlier editions including the Neue Mozart-Ausgabe.
