Here is a strikingly different composition for jazz ensemble from the pen of acclaimed jazz pianist and writer Steve Allee. Featuring a floating texture of parallel harmonics and melodic lines Pure Spirit is a fresh-sounding and rewarding piece for the entire ensemble.

Recorded by Patti Austin with James Ingram in 1983 this smooth jazz classic has a nice contemporary rock groove for jazz ensemble. Using an interesting harmonic structure based on minor chords this chart features the saxes onthe melody a soli for trombones and funky ensemble riffs. This is a solidly scored chart for young players.

This jazz gem from the pen of Tadd Dameron features an easy flowing swing style and adapts wonderfully for full jazz ensemble. Mark's arrangement includes a small group (alto tenor bari. trumpet trombone guitar and vibes) offthe top that contrasts nicely with the full ensemble figures. Also included is a swingin' sax soli solos for trombone and alto and a tutti full band chorus that starts out soft minus drums then builds to a peak.
