La réputation du compositeur Bohême Zdenek Fibich (1850-1900) a toujours été quelque peu éclipsée par celle de Bedrich Smetana et Antonín Dvorák. C'est fort dommage, pour Fibich, bien qu'il est mort jeune, apporté une contribution tout aussi importante à l'émergent styl national tchèque avec son large éventail de compositions. Après le début des leçons de piano avec sa mère comme son premier maître, le garçon ensuite à l'école de musique à Prague, puis au Conservatoire de Leipzig, où il apprend son métier comme compositeur. Cyril Scott was an English composer writer and poet. He was essentially a late romantic composer whose style was at the same time strongly influenced by impressionism. His harmony was notably exotic. Scott wrote around four hundred works which include two mature symphonies three operas three Piano concertos concertos for Violin Cello Oboe and Harpsichord several overtures four oratorios as well as a mass of chamber music.Scott composed his Concerto For Oboe & Orchestra in 1946. The three movements (Molto vigoroso Andante Pastorale:Tranquillo and Rondo giocoso: Allegronon troppo cadenza Con spirit) are published here with a Piano reduction of the orchestra accompaniment.Complete performance time of the entire piece is approximately 20 minutes.

arranged for Oboe and Piano-The Oboe Quartet in F major K. 370/368b was written by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in early 1781. The quartet originally arranged for oboe violin viola and cello is presented in this edition for Oboe with Piano accompaniment. In 1780 Mozart was invited to Munich to visit Elector Karl Theodor who had commissioned the opera Idomeneo for a carnival celebration. While in Munich Mozart renewed an acquaintance with Friedrich Ramm a virtuoso oboist in the Munich orchestra. It was for Ramm that Mozart composed the quartet in order to show off his virtuosity and the improvements that had been made to the oboe at that time. One way that this piece showed off theinstrument was the use of the 'high F' above the staff a note rarely played in any repertoire previously written for the oboe. This piece is a work of chamber music but it has elements that harken to other musical genres and requires a fair amount of virtuosity. Because of its large amount of virtuosic playing on the part of the oboe and the large degree to which the strings simply accompany the oboist it almost resembles a concerto but with only with four players instead of an entire orchestra. Despite this there are also a number of places within the work that require ensemble playing for example the famous 13-bar passage in the finale in which the oboe plays in common time against a 6/8 accompaniment.

Sir Edward Elgar was born in Worcester in 1857. Until the outstanding success of the 'Enigma' Variations in 1899 he was considered a 'provincial' composer - and a largely self taught one at that.In the earlier part of Elgar's career as a composer he wrote several short pieces which became very popular indeed. Chanson de Matin is one such the second of a pair (the other being Chanson de Nuit) which carried his name far and wide before his larger orchestra works appeared. It was published in several versions at once: for string orchestra for small orchestra for violin and piano and so on - so it is almost impossible to say with any degree of certainty which was theoriginal version. This arrangement makes a useful addition to the repertoire for oboe.

The Oboe Sonata Op. 166 was the first of three Wind sonatas that Saint-Saëns wrote in his final year. Throughout his life he had been more familiar with Keyboard and Stringed instruments so thecomposer this time found himself in rather unfamiliar territory. Yet he instantly hit upon the inflections and special characteristics of these instruments. To ensure that the parts reflected the technical and tonal idiosyncrasiesof each instrument he asked advice of Wind soloists of his acquaintance before publication. His Sonata Op. 166 met with the highest approval of the oboist; a passage in a letter bears witness to this: ?It wentlike clockwork?.
