Schumann saisit l´occasion de la publication du premier trio pour appeler le compositeur «le Mozart du 19e siècle», en se référant apparemment aux mélanges d?éléments stylistiques classiques et romantiques. Le texte musical des deux fameux trios a été minutieusement révisé sur la base de l?état actuel de la recherche. Nous proposons en outre la partie de flûte (HN 1297) de la version alternative de l?op. 49 (flûte à la place du violon) arrangée par Mendelssohn lui-même.
