(+)
Pythikos Nomos is scored for alto saxophone (or clarinet in A) and piano. It was at the request of John- Edward Kelly that Brian Elias first decide to write a work for saxophone and piano. ‘Pythikos Nomos’ (Pyhton’s Law)is an ancient Greek musical form invented by Sakadas in 586 BC for the Pythian games to describe the battle between Apollo and the monster on the slopes of Parnassus. It is reputedly the first known genre of programmemusic.Brian Elias decided that the characteristic sounds of the saxophone would be well suited to ancient Greek rhythms and was interested in the implications of this form as an early sonata shape. According to legend Apollofought and defeated the monster on the site which came to be called Delphi. He returned to Delphi in triumph after a period of purification escorted by priests singing hymns of praise. Several versions of the instrumental formexist following the general storyline. Brian chose to base his piece around six sections: (i) Peira (introduction) (ii) Kataleusmos (Apollo incites the monster to battle) (iii) Imabikon (the battle) (iv) Spondeion (hymn ofvictory) (v) Katachoreusis (victory dance) (vi) Syrinxes (the last breaths of the dying monster). The central hymn of victory incorporates a quote from the first Delphic Hym a surviving fragment of ancient Greek music. Thiswork was written for John-Edward Kelly and Bob J.W.Versteegh who gave the first performance on 1st July 1988 at the Wigmore Hall London. Duration c.10 minutes. The score is in C.

(+)

Written for advanced players this piece is dedicated to Sigurd M. Rascher. Divided into two very distinct sections the Elegy and the Rondeau the Elegy starts “Quasi improvisando” on a slow tempo (60) and requires some good technique as part of it relies on improvisation. As the Saxophone is commonly associated with the jazz style classical music for the instrument had always been lacking and so when Paul Bonneau published his Concerto for Alto Saxophone in 1944 it was well-received by performers of the genre. Bonneau's composition was highly versatile ranging from over fifty film scores operettas songs and other pieces for Saxophone including this Concerto. Comprising three movements a typical performance lasts about fifteen minutes. Bonneau's Concerto for Alto Saxophone contains typically French characteristics includingchromaticism and difficult technical passages. Par MARTON KEREKFY. Introduction and Dance exploits the alto saxophone's characteristic sound and virtuosity. It starts with a slow, nascent music, which gives way to a very fast dance with aksak rhythm in an asymmetrically segmented 8/16 meter. The work was commissioned by and is dedicated to saxophonist Levente Puskás and pianist Judit Váradi, who premiered it in September 2020 in the Hungarian Radio, and then first performed in concert in November that year. Márton Kerékfy (b. 1981) studied musicology and composition at the Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest (2000-2007) and received his PhD in musicology (2015) from the same institution. In 2006 he spent one semester on an Erasmus Grant at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. Márton is Senior Research Fellow at the Budapest Bartók Archives, Editor of the Béla Bartók Complete Critical Edition, and Editor-in-Chief at Editio Musica Budapest Zenemukiadó. / Date parution : 2022-04-12/ Répertoire / Saxophone et Piano

(+)
For Tenor Sax And Piano-Charles Gounod's restful melody soars over J.S. Bach's famous prelude. Gonoud was one of France's best composers if a little undervalued at the end of the nineteenth century before his interest in Religious and Sacred compositions waned. This piece is a prime example of his interst in ealier forms of music. This version has been faithfully if not wonderfully arranged for a Tenor saxophone and Piano accompaniment by Duncan Reid. This superb piece will be a suitable challenge for those working at grades 2-3.

Saxophone En Mib Et Piano
