Kaija Saariaho?s Offrande was written as a wedding gift for Marianna Karttunen et Nicolas Saint-Bris in 2014. The first public performance took place on 13 February 2017 at La Maison de la Radio France, Paris, as part of the Festival Présences, dedicated to the composer?s music, and was given by Anssi Karttunen, violoncello and Olivier Latry, organ.

Since the last movement of this piece, which is perhaps the most beautiful of Hindemith's pieces, is a chorale, a version for string instrument plus organ is the obvious work to publish. Thus, 'Trauermusik' can now be performed in churches as well.Versions of 'Trauermusik' for viola or violin or violoncello with piano have been available for quite some time.
