This seven-minute concert overture recalls the early days of the railways and one of the most famous engines of all time ‘The Rocket’. It was commissioned by the Director of the North Hertfordshire Wind Band Phillip Ellis who is the great-great-great-grandson of Stephenson and depicts the Victorian carnival atmosphere on the day of the engine’s inauguration. An ideal work for a good school youth or county level band.

In each of the past two years, Robert W. Smith has released a movement from his symphony The Divine Comedy. The Inferno is the first movement of Robert W. Smith's four-movement work The Divine Comedy based on Dante Alighieri's literary classic of the same name. Dante's vision of hell consists of nine concentric circles divided into four categories of sin. Le 'chat et de la souris chasse' a été une partie de la culture folklorique et populaire depuis l'époque des pharaons de l'ancienne Egypte. Au fil des siècles, la chasse a servi comme une métaphore de la relation de suspense et parfois en alternance entre le chasseur et chassé. A l'époque moderne, l'histoire a été joué des centaines de fois dans des dessins animés populaires, souvent accompagnée d'une partition musicale qui représente l'esprit énergique de la chasse avec des torsions et les tours animés, des surprises soudaines et pince-sans-rire de musique. Malcolm Arnold's Clarinet Concerto No.2 Op.115 was dedicated to Benny Goodman and first performed by him as part of the Red Rocks Music Festival with the Denver Symphony Orchestra conducted by Brian Priestman on 17 August 1974. The third movement known affectionately as The Pre-Goodman Rag is an outrageous ragtime parody with a hauntingly wistful middle section. The work has now been made more widely available in this transcription for wind band.
