Inspired by Benjamin Britten's The Young Person's Guide To The Orchestra, Harald Feller wrote this work for organ and narrator. By combining musical, technical and tonal possibilities of the organ, he wants to arouse the listener's interest and enthusiasm for organ music and make it accessible to a wide (not just young) audience.This work of about 20 minutes' duration can also be performed without narrator. / Voix Et Orgue

Martin Luther. Par SCHNEIDER ENJOTT. On the occasion of the quincentenary of Reformation Day in 2017, the composer Enjott Schneider thoroughly studied Martin Luther the individual and all his contradictions. The result is a brilliant, demanding organ symphony which is perfect for concerts on the subject of Reformation and Martin Luther. The composer describes the five movements of the symphony as follows: '1st movement: Wir glauben all an einen Gott with its quintuplet-like beginning is very Gregorian in style, outlining the range of Lutheran emotionalism between the Middle Ages and the modern era. The irrationality of 'faith' ultimately has priority over any thought and evidence. At the beginning of the movement, sounds of knocking on wood remind of the nailing of the Ninety-Five Theses to the doors of churches in Wittenberg. The chorale melody sometimes hides with an almost rough medieval saltarello, referring to Luther's robustness and vitality with which he knew to carry away even common people. 2nd movement: In 1530, the electoral prince of Saxony presented to Luther at Coburg Castle the golden signet ring with the 'Luther rose' which became the symbol of his theology of grace. A white heart with black cross is fixed on a five-petalled rose. To him, 'white' is the colour of angels and ghosts, 'black' stands for the pain of crucification: 'The just shall live by faith, but by faith in the Crucified.' But the fact that the rose and the heart are the dominating symbols shows how Catholic Marian piety remained an ingredient of Luther's spirituality throughout his life. In line with the dominant five-petal structure of the rose, this movement was composed, to a large extent, in accordance with the floating, lyrical rhythm in 5/8 time. 3rd movement: The omnipresence of death and dying – from the plague and war to the never-ending dangers of daily life – was an essential part of the world view of that time. Fears ensued that might heighten into the grotesque, e.g. in the pictures of Hieronymus Bosch. The 'Danse macabre' was a popular motif in those years. Luther's chorale 'Mitten wir im Leben sind / mit dem Tod umfangen' from 1524 ('Enchiridion' from Erfurt) is based on the Gregorian chant 'Media vita in morte sumus' created in France around 750 and, with its idea of transience, inspired a simplistic air. 4th movement: The famous confession delivered at the Diet of Worms in 1521, 'I stand here and can say no more. God help me. Amen', are not Luther's words but the version later used as text for a pamphlet. However, it represents quite plainly the straightforwardness and inevitability of his mission. Musically, it was made into a 'perpetuum mobile', i.e. a dogged, ostinato and never-ending musical air. 5th movement: The 'Mighty Fortress', on the other hand, is one of the great symbols of Martin Luther which, with its shining C major key, embodies the Protestant ideology and willful nature of the Reformation unlike any other song. Heinrich Heine called it the 'Marseille anthem of the Reformation', Friedrich Engels the 'Marseillaise of the Peasants' Wars'. This disputability is not thought through to the end but rather interrupted: With a jubilant 'birdcall version' of the melody, the finale shows a rather chamber-music-like side of the 'ideals of freedom of Christians'.'/ Répertoire / Orgue

Though the work bearing this title is a portrait of childhood, it is a childhood quite different from the purely gameplaying and dreamlike childhood that is customarily represented. The childhood described here is carrying the seed, in all its purity, of all positive and negative qualities to be found the fully-grown men: a childhood both angelic and diabolical, and indeed very close to Henry James' 'The Turn of the Screw' which was the direct inspiration for this monodrama. Its growth follows the innumerable sudden changes, turns and contrasts of the unsophisticated spirit. There is hardly any development at all, as each idea gives birth to the next or rejects the previons one, being object to every impulse, every tempest, every flux, every fear and delight. After a dreamlike introduction, in which two simple melodies stand out, comes a sudden awakening, Allegro, stamped all over with lavish and forever regenerating dynamism. A sudden halt leads a kind of outburst from the most simple folklore is singing, in regular, repeated notes. Again the question mark leads us to another melody, Tranquillo, of a sweet tempo, but brilliantly decorated with counter-point, its cursive traits leading this time to a kind of roguish march (Vigoroso). Yet soon there emerges a melancholic chant, Largo, in the Cromorne's timbre, and then, in the highest register of the Trumpet there reappears like a metamorphosed memory, the theme of the second movement. Passing other episodes, we come to Tempo giusto, insistent and glorious, interrupted by other passionate figures, cut off by unsettling silent moments and taken up again in always accelerating volleys./ Répertoire / Orgue

 Les cinq pièces qui composent Orchésographie ont été écrites de 2008 à 2012, Elles sont dédicacées à Pascale ROUET,Après avoir placé la plupart de mes précédents cycles pour orgue dans une tonalité sombre, grave et tourmentée, j'ai voulu écrire une série de pièces plus intimistes, optimistes, et nostalgiques, empreintes - j'espère l'avoir réussi - de fraîcheur et de sérénité, J'ai puisé librement mon inspiration dans les danses de la Renaissance, que j'aime particulièrement jouer à l'orgue et dont j'ai essayé de restituer l'esprit, dans la mesure où celui-ci correspondait très bien à ce projet,Le cycle reprend le très beau titre d'Orchésographie, que le chanoine de Langres Jehan Tabourot a donné en 1589 à son ' Traicté en forme de dialogue par lequel toutes personnes peuvent facilement apprendre and practiquer l'honneste exercice des dances ', sous le pseudonyme de Thoinot Arbeau, anagramme de son nom, Il s'agit du premier manuel qui précise les pas à exécuter en regard de la partition musicale dans les multiples danses d'origine médiévale, qui connaîtront un succès phénoménal chez les musiciens des siècles suivants (Passe-pieds, branles, pavanes, tourdions, voltes et autres gavottes ?),Dans cet esprit, ces pièces conviennent donc particulièrement à un petit orgue ancien, Le langage n'est en rien changé par l'esthétique ancienne d'un instrument, dans la mesure où, dans ma musique, il n'est pas de contrainte grammaticale dont le sens et la cohérence soient susceptibles d'être altérés par le tempérament de l'orgue ou le changement de diapason, Je dirais même que certaines de mes pièces acquièrent davantage de ' caractère harmonique ' par la variation de ces deux paramètres - d'autant plus d'ailleurs que ma musique revendique souvent une connivence d'intention avec les pièces des époques anciennes (durée relativement courte de chaque pièce, registration presque unique, virtuosité sans difficulté, abstraction placée au service d'épanchements émotifs et sensibles, aspect essentiellement rhétorique, refus de la lourdeur harmonique au profit de lignes mélodiques travaillées et ornées),Interpréter ces pièces sur un orgue moderne est possible, La cohérence des accords n'en est en rien changée, Mais j'ai tendance à vivre cela comme un appauvrissement du caractère rugueux et âpre qui me plaît beaucoup lorsque l'on dispose d'un orgue ancien, I, Estampie 3' 25''II, Basse Danse 4' 25''III, Saltarello 3'IV, Pavane 4'V, Gaillarde 5' / Orgue

Les pièces que voici constituent un pendant italien au Livre d'Orgue composé en 1996 pour un orgue classique français plus ou moins idéalisé. Contrairement à la ' Chaconne ', écrite dans le même élan, pièce que l'on peut jouer sur un orgue ancien (ou ' à l'ancienne ') accordé au tempérament mésotonique, cet ensemble ne sonnera bien que sur un tempérament égal ou presque égal. On peut donc jouer ces pièces soit sur un orgue ancien qui aurait été restauré sans trop de rigueur, soit sur un instrument moderne, en s'inspirant des registrations anciennes, mais sans en faire une obligation absolue. / Orgue

 En ce monde, c'est toujours ce qui nous échappe qui nous retient et nous fascine ! Il en va ainsi de l'orgue Cavaillé-Coll du château d'Ilbarritz côtoyant de si près la légende, avec son passage éphémère sur la Côte Basque et ce personnage énigmatique du baron de l'Epée, instigateur du projet, dont on n'a retrouvé aucun portrait,C'est donc une inspiration visionnaire qui a guidé ma plume dans ce temps de 1897 où Aristide Cavaillé-Coll venait d'installer l'orgue le plus moderne et le plus grand jamais réalisé pour un particulier, Un véritable testament de fabrique ! Quand l'on songe à Albert de l'Espée, on imagine aisément le délice qui devait être le sien à demeurer seul dans ce château, juché sur son promontoire entre ciel et terre devant l'océan déchaîné,,,C'est, après tout, le rêve de tout un chacun de goûter à une part d'éternité, sans contrainte et sans masque, en toute sincérité !L'ensemble de l'oeuvre est une louange à la beauté de la création, en quelque sorte une forme d'hymne,L'idée conductrice du premier recueil pourrait être attribuée au tumulte de l'océan, agrémenté des vents frénétiques du littoral, Il comprend : - une fantaisie en sol mineur - une toccata en mi mineur - et une rapsodie en ut mineur,L'idée conductrice du second recueil pourrait aussi illustrer l'impression vrombissante de cet orgue ' légendaire ' dont on percevait l'écho jusqu'au Domaine de Marbella, Il comprend : - une fantaisie en sol dièse mineur - une toccata en mi mineur - une toccata en ut mineur,Ainsi sont ces Impressions romanesques d'Ilbarritz où se mêlent Histoire, évasion et onirisme,,, - Légendes de Biarritz 08:45- Inexorables déferlantes des océans et des cieux 06:00- Ilbarritz toccata 08:20 / Orgue

Par RAVEL MAURICE. Thomas Ospital Pourquoi Ravel n'a t'il rien composé pour l'orgue ? C'est l'éternelle question que se posent les organistes ... Seulement, aimait-il cet instrument? Sa musique, si gracieuse et infiniment mouvante pouvait-elle épouser l'apparente rigidité de l'orgue ? D'autre part, on peut se demander quel aurait été son attrait pour cet instrument si la musique d'orgue de son temps eut été plus connectée à la vie musicale du début du xx:e siècle. Et que dire s'il avait connu nos instruments modernes ... Et nous pourrions ainsi continuer à spéculer et nous livrer à des débats sans lendemain. Bien sûr la transcription permet de combler une partie de ce manque. Mais finalement, avons-nous le droit de détourner une ?uvre imaginée et rêvée dans une finalité sonore simplement pour assouvir notre frustration ? J'ai pour ma part beaucoup hésité à me lancer dans cette aventure. Mais en y travaillant, je me suis rendu compte que cela ouvrait de nouvelles pistes dans l'écriture pour orgue afin de transcrire non pas le texte musical mais cette flexibilité du son si présente dans l' ?uvre de Ravel. Je me suis appuyé pour cela sur les deux versions de Ma Mère l'Oye; celle pour piano à 4 mains composée en 1910 et l'orchestration datant de 1911. Le piano, dont l'épanouissement sonore est si particulier et insaisissable, reste un instrument toujours difficile à transcrire. Aussi, l'orchestration de cette ?uvre par l'auteur donnait de nombreuses réponses quant à la manière de traiter les questions de résonances ou de masses sonores. Lorgue de Saint-Eustache fut également un véritable complice dans cette réalisation; une sorte de laboratoire pour chercher à transposer les effets sonores générés par l'orchestration. Les registrations ont été inspirées par les couleurs de cet orgue bien que rationalisées pour un orgue à trois claviers. Aussi, il est important de ne pas être trop scrupuleux dans l'application de ces indications. De façon générale, il faut veiller à ce que chaque plan sonore reste équilibré et clair. Ne pas hésiter à enlever certains jeux de fonds pour favoriser la lisibilité du discours. Enfin, colorer les jeux solistes par l'adjonction mesurée d'harmoniques.
