Violin and Piano-Einstein was a violinist all his life. In the motion picture Einstein's Light filmmaker Nickolas Barris and composer Bruce Adolphe set out to communicate Einstein's dedication to the Violin and his particular love for the music of Mozart and Bach. This collection of music composed for the soundtrack is based on phrases from those two great masters that spin off into physics-inspired dreams and thoughts. It contains a poignant solo Violin piece based on music by Bach and four pieces for Violin and Piano that are based on phrases from Mozart's music. The composer includes one work in particular the Mozart Violin Sonata No. 34 notable because the only extant recording of Einsteinplaying the Violin contains the slow movement from this sonata. The soundtrack to Einstein's Light was recorded by Joshua Bell and Marija Stroke on Sony Classical Records. This edition contains bowings and fingerings by Joshua Bell. Movement Titles: 1. 1001 Nights in the Harem. Par SAY FAZIL. 'My Violin Concerto consists of four movements whose inspiration is loosely connected with Scheherazade’s One Thousand and One Nights. The first movement is set inside the harem; a variety of women from the harem are introduced, each with her own different personality. The second movement is a frenzy of dance – in effect a party night with an abundance of different types of dance music. The third movement depicts the next morning and consists primarily of variations on a well-known Turkish song. The fourth movement begins dramatically, but develops during the course of the movement more and more into a reminiscence of all the previous events and the work culminates dreamily in a happy mood with sensuous oriental sounds. As appropriate for an oriental soundscape, the orchestra includes a series of Turkish percussion instruments such as a kudüm or bendir, but also glockenspiel, marimba und vibraphone, celesta and harp. It is however the solo violin which tells the story and also accompanies the listener through the entire work. The violin part is highly virtuoso and unites the four movements into an intensely atmospheric whole in which the solo violin soars off into a solo cadenza between each movement, sometimes accompanied by one of the percussion instruments. As is customary, the present piano reduction is initially intended as an aid for the study of this work, but during my tour programmes with Patricia Kopatchinskaya and Burhan Öçal we have utilised this material to create a trio version for violin, piano and percussion.' for Violin and Piano. Par SAINT-SAENS CAMILLE / YSAYE EUGENE. Originally, Camille Saint -Saëns created this work for piano in 1877 under the title 'Etude en form de Valse,' Op.52/6. In 1901, Ysaye reworked this piece for violin and piano and published it as 'Caprice d'après l'Etude en forme de Valse de Saint-Saëns.' Ysae created a veritable masterpiece for violin, far more popular now than the original piano version. It has taken its rightful place in the virtuoso violin literature. The Sarabanda for violin and piano (P015a) is a short composition consisting of three pages dated 1897, published here for the first time. The original manuscript is part of the private archive of Potito Pedarra, cataloguer of Ottorino Respighi’s compositional legacy. Ottorino Respighi composed this work during his youth in the same year as the Sonata in D minor (1897, P015), Giga (P015b) and Allegretto vivace (P015c), all scored for violin and piano. In 1898, Respighi transposed the Sarabanda to F major in order to incorporate it into the Suite per pianoforte (P022, unedited). Traces of the Sarabanda’s theme are recognizable in the Grave (Tempo di Sarabanda) of the second part of the unedited ballet Le Astuzie di Colombina (Scherzo veneziano), composed in 1920 (P130, unedited).
