In 2015 this musical tale for Narrator Children’s Choir and Instrumental Accompaniment was awarded the “Music for Young Performers Prize” by the French Music Publishers Association. Both in the French version and MarciMeth’s excellent English translation it provides the material for an enthralling educational adventure in which children between the ages of five and eight are invited into their first experience of opera and choir singing. With her trademark finesse and sensitivity the composer tells the story of a little girl dealing with the death of a person she’d cherished above all: her grandfather. Written for choir in unison this tale wafts shimmering melodies over an instrumental accompaniment suffused in turn with gentle melancholy and light humour. An art that speaks from an open heart. Nicholas Nye is a poem for young children written by Walter De La Mere (1873-1956) in 1931. It was to set to music for Unison Voices with Piano accompaniment by Llifon Hughes-Jones in 1942.Dr. Llifon Hughes-Jones (1918-1996) was a British composer conductor and teacher. He studied at the Manchester Music college (now the RNCM) and Trinity College London and later taught music for many years atSalford Grammar school. He wrote many works for the National Eisteddfod competitions in which he also adjudicated. He was one of the few composers who regularly wrote in Welsh and the musical culture of Wales is still indebtedto his contributions.

This Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis in B minor is less well known than Thiman’s service in G and is awaiting revival.Eric Thiman was a 20th century composer teacher and Organist who was also an advocate of amateur music-making. He was a prolific composer of church music and Piano and Organ works and his craftsmanship and gift for melody were much admired. He was director of music at the City Temple in London. As an educator he was a professor at the Royal Academy of Music and he wrote many books on harmony counterpoint and musical form.

Mila und der Schiffbaum entstand im Auftrag der Académie musicale von Villecroze im Rahmen des Projekts „3 Komponisten schreiben für die Schule“. Es handelt sich dabei um eine musikalische Geschichte für Erzähler Kinderchor und Instrumentalbegleitung die Kindern zwischen fünf und acht Jahren auf pädagogisch wertvolle und spannende Weise zu ersten Erfahrungen mit Musiktheater und Chorgesang verhilft. Mit der tiefen Sensibilität und der Feinsinnigkeit die das Geheimnis ihrer Kunst sind erzählt Isabelle Aboulker die Geschichte eines kleinen Mädchens dem es gelingt über denVerlust eines über alles geliebten Menschen nämlich seines Großvaters hinwegzukommen. Die überaus reizenden Melodien dieses für einstimmigen Chor geschriebenen Werks ranken sich über einer Instrumentalbegleitung in der sich zarte Schwermut und feiner Humor abwechseln – diese Musiksprache kommt direkt aus dem Herzen. This piece while affecting and verymuch in the Vaughan Williams harmonic style is uncluttered and convincing in its simplicity.
