Pascal Proust has many years of experience as a musician and music teacher. His works include several hundred compositions for the most diverse range of instrumentations. He wrote 14 Intermediate Clarinet Quartets for clarinet players who have around 4-5 years of experience. It is important that these players have paid special attention to an easy-to-follow and attractive musical style. These quartets are ideal performance and competition works for young clarinet ensembles.

This suite is drawn from the composer's new score for the vintage 1928 silent comedy of the same name starring Charlie Bowers. The original film score runs 20 minutes and is scored for piccolo, sopranino recorder, 2 soprano recorders, ocarina, oboe, English horn, Eb clarinet, Bb clarinet, 2 bass clarinets, contrabass clarinet, banjo, slide whistle, saw, glockenspiel, percussion, toy piano, 3 melodicas, accordion, and piano. Here it has been pared down to 11 minutes and rescored for clarinet quartet. Synopsis of the wonderfully weird film: Scotland Yard detective Charley MacNeesha carries his constant companion MacGregor--who is either a hairy insect or a buggy-looking mouse--in a matchbox. The pair travels to New York to solve the case of the Fuzz-Faced Phantom who causes full-grown chickens to hatch from eggs, pots to rain from the ceiling, and pants to dance of their own volition in a surrealist comedy that anticipated Salvador Dali and Luis Bunuel's An Andalusian Dog by more than a year.

‘Bella Ciao’ originated as an Italian folk song, stemming all the way from the late 19th century. Many versions have since appeared over the years, but the song now has a new lease of life owing to a new dance adaption as well as its feature as the theme for the Netflix series ‘La Casa de Papel’, which has inspired Bert van Haagen to create this dynamic arrangement for quartet.

‘Bella Ciao’ is van oorsprong een aansprekend Italiaans volksliedje uit het einde van de 19e eeuw waar in de loop der tijd vele versies van zijn gemaakt. Nu heeft het nieuw leven ingeblazen gekregen in een dancevariant én als themasong bij de Netflixserie La Casa de Papel. Naar aanleiding daarvan creëerde Bert van Haagen dit levendige arrangement voor blazerskwartet.

Bella Ciao ist ursprünglich ein italienisches Volkslied aus dem späten 19. Jahrhundert. Im Laufe der Jahre sind zahlreiche Versionen erschienen, aber das Lied ist jetzt durch eine neue Tanzadaption und die Verwendung als Thema für die Netflix-Serie La casa de papel“ (Haus des Geldes“) wieder aufgelebt. Das hat Bert van Haagen dazu inspiriert, dieses neue dynamische Arrangement für Quartett zu schreiben.

l’origine, « Bella Ciao » est une chanson populaire italienne qui remonte au XIXe siècle. Elle a fait l’objet de nombreuses versions au fil du temps, mais elle connaît aujourd’hui un regain de popularité gr ce une nouvelle adaptation chorégraphique, ainsi qu’en tant que thème de la série diffusée sur Netflix, La Casa de Papel, qui a incité Bert van Haagen écrire cet arrangement dynamique pour quatuor.

Most of them are transcriptions of instrumental or choral works, the easiest ones can be played after just a few months of clarinet study. The supplementary parts supplied enable the clarinet (or bass clarinet) in the two outer parts to be replaced by a non-transposing instrument: flute, oboe or violin, and bassoon or cello.
