Par SCHOONENBEEK KEES. The first movement of this work, an Allegretto, begins with a fanfare-like opening. After a number of other melody lines, a reprise of the beginning follows, which ends in a cadenza for the soloist. Movement two, titled Rituel, is characterized by interplay between the soloist and the band within a stately melody. In the final movement, the theme of the first movement’s opening returns. As the indication ‘alla marcia’ of the last movement suggests, this Allegro Giocoso contains march-like music that guarantees a lively conclusion. With Concertino, Kees Schoonenbeek has written an appealing work that is very suitable for a beginner soloist. Arr. Klaas Van Der Woude. Par CRESPO ENRIQUE. Trumpets of Jericho est une oeuvre à programme du compositeur et tromboniste uruguayen Enrique Crespo (1941). Jéricho est, selon le récit biblique, la première ville du pays de Canaan conquise par Josué et les Hébreux vers 1200 avant J. -C. Le livre de Josué relate la prise de Jéricho et comment, le septième jour - après avoir fait le tour de la cité en silence une fois pendant six jours - les murailles de la ville s'effondrèrent par la simple volonté divine après la procession, sept fois autour de la cité, de l'arche d'Alliance et de sept prêtres sonnant sept chofars (trompettes). La version musicale du récit est d’une grande intensité : on entend la procession au loin(caisse claire). Conduits par Josué, les enfants d’Israël marchent vers Jéricho et commencent leur procession autour de la cité (cuivres graves, instruments des registres alto et ténor). Par SPARKE PHILIP. To A New Dawn was commissioned by the United States Continental Army Band - Captain Timothy J. Holtan, Commander and Conductor. The brief was for a piece to celebrate the 3rd Millennium and it was the composer’s aim to provide a work which, as well as looking forward to the challenges of the new century, also contained moments of reflection about the last one. After a bright introduction featuring the trumpets a perky theme, passing quickly through several keys, appears on the woodwinds. A solo trumpet takes up a new theme over bubbling quavers (eighth notes) and this leads to a rhythmic figure on low clarinets, followed by the upper woodwinds. A brass interlude follows and, after ashort bridge passage, an oboe takes up a contrasting legato tune that builds to a climax. An andante section follows with solos for horn and flugel horn (or trumpet) and a florid flute cadenza. A passionate climax leads back to the faster music and, eventually, to a full recapitulation, revisiting the earlier material before a lively coda close the work as it began. / Niveau : 4 / Pièce de concert / Répertoire / Concert Band ou Harmonie

Il a écrit des chansons pour des stars mondiales telles qu’Ella Fitzgerald, Peggy Lee, Shirley Bassey, Anita Kerr et Frank Sinatra. Le son mythique de sa formation a fait le tour du monde. Ses affinités avec la musique noire et sa fascination pour les sonorités sud-africaines ont influencé plusieurs de ses compositions et arrangements. Par SPARKE PHILIP. The White Rose was commissioned by the White Rose Concert Band from Harrogate, England. The band takes its name from the county symbol of Yorkshire, the white rose. This partly rhythmic, party lyrical piece opens with a flourish from the trumpets. Par SPARKE PHILIP. To celebrate the 350th anniversary of the Stadtmusikkapelle Wilten in Innsbruck Philip Sparke composed Wilten Festival Overture. A bold fanfare, led by the horns, forms the opening of the work from which an expressive theme unfolds until the full band reaches a climax. Short solo statements from saxophone, horn and trumpet lead to a recapitulation of this theme which melts into a rhythmic Vivo. A robust melody is is then played by the clarinets and taken up by the whole band before a legato figure leads to a cantabile theme, again presented by the clarinets. The original Vivo melody reappears before the opening fanfare is briefly heard and the work comes to an end with ashort Coda. Evergreen Concerto s’articule autour d’un premier mouvement constitué de deux thèmes contrastants - l’un résolu, l’autre lyriquement mélodieux - d’une fantaisie libre sur un menuet de Georg Friedrich Haendel et d’un troisième mouvement qui développe deux entités thématiques progressant vers un charmant cantabile.
