(+)
Charpentier composed ?In Nativitatem Domini Canticum? during his period as maître de musique at the church of St Louis in Paris (around 1690). It is in the tradition of the oratorios of Carissimi and his contemporaries but is more easily described as a ?Grand Motet? or ?Histoire sacrée? a genre in which Charpentier excelled. The work was probably intended for performance during mass on Christmas Day and thus had a liturgical function as was customary during the period of Louis XIV in Paris. The text presents the Christmas story in three sections: the chorus of the faithful the actual story of the birth of Jesus and the adoration ofthe shepherds in the fields. The music reveals a subtle mixture of French and Italian styles with dramatic elements. For the first time this work prepared by the acknowledged Charpentier expert Joel Schwindt is presented in a scholarly-critical edition where all sources have been consulted.A detailed foreword and critical commentary provide detailed information which fulfil all the criteria of an Urtext edition.- First Urtext edition of this work.- An important addition to the repertoire for Christmas.- Straightforward clear Piano reduction.- Foreword (Ger/Eng) and critical commentary (Eng).- Full score performance material (BA7673) & Vocal score (BA7673-90) available for sale.

Süssmayr-Version-The history of the genesis of the Requiem is entwined with legends and anecdotes. The burdens of the composition and performance of La Clemenza di Tito and Die Zauberflöte and an acute infection led to the collapse and death of the composer following a short illness. Mozart left his wife in considerable debt. Constanze therefore turned to Mozart?s friends asking them to complete the fragment. After two failed attempts the task passed to Mozart?s pupil Franz Xaver Süßmayr who completed the Requiem in the form known today using working materials that are no longer extant and perhaps verbal instructions from the composer. Today the Süßmayr version is still the most well known and it is doubtless the one with the closest historical ties to Mozart. Süßmayr?s version of the Requiem has been published in a new edition which is true to the original sources.

The autograph of the Missa brevis K.192 (186f) known as the Little Credo Mass (because of the Credo calls interspersed in the text of the third movement) is dated Salzburg 24 June 1774. This Mass intended for Sundays and minor feasts was in any case written for Salzburg Cathedral in the archives of which is preserved an authentic set of parts containing markings by Mozart and his father. When the master journeyed to Paris in 1777 he took the autograph of this work along with him leaving it with the canons of Heilig Geist Kloster in Augsburg to have parts copied out.According to Abert (who wrote a classic biography of Mozart) this work is considered 'by manyto be the high point of Mozart's 'youthful Masses'' and 'as far as the motivic unity of the individual movements and the strengthening of the contrapuntal element is concerned goes far beyond everything composed hitherto'.Urtext of the New Mozart EditionFull score performance material (BA4770) and vocal score (BA4770-90) available for sale.

Easter Cantata-Christ lag in Todesbanden (Christ lay in grim death's prison)Easter CantataIn recent years the demand for making available a larger number of choral works by Johann Pachelbel (1653-1706) has made itself felt more strongly than ever before. Within the past few years the search for unpublished manuscripts of choral compositions written by Johann Pachelbel has been taken up again and not in vain. Approximately twenty instrumentally accompanied arias and thirty elaborate choral works intended for services of worship have recently been found. These date from the days when Pachelbel was an active church musician in Erfurt and Nuremberg and include compositionsof various categories e.g. motets cantatas magnificats and masses. The excellency of Pachelbel's choral works may be attributed in large part to the magnificence and splendour of their tonal character. They are unusually vocal choral and singable. In the very best sense of the term they are what the Germans call 'Gebrauchsmusik' that is to say they are functional music written for specific use in the church service. They are not music written for its own sake.Full score performance material (BA2875) choral score (BA2875-91) available for sale

Bleib Bei Uns Denn Es Will Abend Werden BWV 6Cantata for Easter Monday- Full score & performance material (BA10006) vocal score (BA10006-90) available for saleBarenreiter's editions of Bach's Cantatas offer the authoritative text of the New Bach Edition meeting Bärenreiter Urtext standards. No group of works in Johann Sebastian Bach?s output is as wide-ranging as the cantatas. This is hardly surprising considering that for over five years Bach was required to compose a work or at least re-work an existing one for every Sunday and festival of the church year as well as for numerous secular occasions such ascouncil inaugurations school and university celebrations and royal birthdays.Unfortunately not all cantatas have survived. However over 200 sacred and secular works exist and form a corpus of works suitable for all possible occasions. This rich musical heritage is still as relevant today as it was then.

(+)
Monteverdi’s opera “L’Orfeo” based on the legend of Thracian singer Orpheus and his love of Eurydice is a masterpiece of musical declamation and ornamentation. It was first performed during the 1607 carnevale in the “Palazzo Ducale” in Mantua. When an edition remains true to its sources this certainly does not mean that it is not also practical to use as is demonstrated in this Bärenreiter edition of Monteverdi’s “L’Orfeo”. Edited by Rinaldo Alessandrini the new publication follows the Bärenreiter edition of Monteverdi’s “Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria”.Two contemporary prints of “L’Orfeo” from the years 1609 and 1615 have been passed down to us. Four copies of each of these prints still survive today in public libraries. The later print includes many corrections to the earlier edition and was accordingly used as the primary source for this Bärenreiter edition. However when solving musical problems the editor frequently follows the more coherent style of the earlier print. The numerous interesting variants not only between the two editions but also amongst the eight surviving copies are listed in the critical commentary. This edition of “L’Orfeo” offers in addition to Monteverdi’s somewhat sparse original figures also figures added to the bass line by the editor. The continuo player should however feel free to follow his own judgment. The notation has been when necessary adapted to suit modern practice for example with regard to the clefs. The sections that were originally written in “chiavetta” have been transposed a fifth lower. In the appendix these sections also appear in their original notation in facsimile as well as transposed a fourth lower. Detailed introduction by the editor (Ital/Eng/Ger) on the work’s genesis and performance practice Comprehensive critical commentary (Eng) in the score Idiomatic piano reduction

(+)
Oratorio on passages from the Holy Bible and the Catholic liturgy. Franz Liszt’s “Christus” is an attempt to capture in music the life of Christ from his birth to his Passion and Resurrection thereby following in the tradition of Handel’s biblical oratorios. Despite the familiar subject matter Liszt was concerned less with depicting Jesus’s deeds than with producing an object of meditation. To this end he employed a full array of musical devices to create a work abounding in sharp contrasts: symphonic textures alongside simple hymns modal harmonies alongside bold chromaticism and varied combinations of voices and instrumentsalongside purely instrumental groupings. David Friddle’s new edition is the first to publish the original text of “Christus” on the basis of all available sources. His extensive introduction also sheds light on the performance practices of Liszt’s day. Our vocal score contains a German translation of the original Latin as a guide. - First Urtext edition of this work. - Straightforward easy-to-play piano reduction. - Duration: approx. 175 minutes. - Full score (BA7680) and vocal score (BA7680-90) for sale; performance material (BA7680-72) for hire.

Romantische Opera in three acts-Alfonso und Estrella D 732Romatic Opera in 3 ActsIn late September or early October 1821 Schubert and his close friend Franz von Schober vacationed in the countryside of Lower Austria. Their first stopover was at Ochsenburg Castle which belonged to the Bishop of St. Pölten (a close relative of Schober?s) after which they moved on to St. Pölten itself. Roughly a year earlier two stage works by Schubert had been performed in Vienna: the one-act singspiel Die Zwillingsbrüder and the melodrama Die Zauberharfe. The librettos were both written by the seasoned Viennese playwright Georg von Hofmann who blamed the press for the indifferent reception the two works weregiven by the audience. Schubert and Schober now decided it would seem to write a grand romantic opera uninfluenced by the workaday world of the theatre and beholden solely to their own ideas of what an opera should be.Not until 24 June 1854 was the opera finally performed in Weimar under the baton of Franz Liszt. It only achieved success however in an arrangement by Johann Nepomuk Fuchs that was staged on many German and Austrian stages in 1881 2 allegedly with 'brilliant acclaim'.Urtext of the New Schubert EditionFull score (BA5540) and vocal score (BA5540-90) available for salePerformance material (BA5540-72) available for hire

Par HAENDEL GEORG FRIEDRICH. Handel Song for St Cecilia´s Day (HWV 76) (Vocal Score) Following ?Alexander?s Feast? (1736), in 1739 Handel produced a second setting of the ?Ode to St Cecilia? (?Song for St Cecilia?s Day?). At its première it was combined with ?Alexander?s Feast?. Rather than a dramatic plot presentable in the theatre, the Ode, in its seven sections, offers a general hymn of praise to music and its impact. Accordingly, it largely consists of emotion-laden arias and festive orchestration. This edition, based on the Urtext from the ?Halle Handel Edition?, offers the version heard at the first performance ? the version preferred in today?s concert life. The foreword (Ger/Eng) provides many detailed notes on performance practice with regard to orchestration. - Urtext from the ?Halle Handel Edition? - Detailed notes on performance practice in the text section (Ger/Eng) - Straightforward piano reduction - Full Score (BA10722), vocal score (BA10722-90) and parts (BA10722) available for sale / Date parution : 2022-07-20/ Répertoire / Solistes, SATB et Orchestre

Cantata for the First Sunday of Advent-Nun komm der Heiden Heiland BWV 61Cantata for the First Sunday of AdventBach began two of his cantatas with Martin Luther`s Advent hymn 'Nun komm der Heiden Heiland' a German version of the early church hymn 'Veni redemptor gentium'. One of the most gripping solo parts (following the pattern recitative – aria – recitative – aria) is the bass recitative on the words of the Revelation with its highly expressive declamation of the vocal line and the naive graphicness of the pounding string accompaniment.Equally captivating is the following soprano aria which 'opens its heart' upon the Saviour's 'knocking' in a melody full of thecheerful tidings of Advent. The cantata ends brilliantly with a lovely figurative chorale movement enhanced by the interplay of a lively bustling violin part which ultimately soars upward to breathtaking heights.- Urtext of the New Bach Edition

(+)
Favola in musica in un prologo e cinque atti-Monteverdi’s opera “L’Orfeo” based on the legend of Thracian singer Orpheus and his love of Eurydice is a masterpiece of musical declamation and ornamentation. Edited by Rinaldo Alessandrini the new publication follows the Bärenreiter edition of Monteverdi’s “Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria”. Two contemporary prints of “L’Orfeo” from the years 1609 and 1615 have been passed down to us. In the appendix these sections also appear in their original notation in facsimile as well as transposed a fourth lower.Detailed introduction by the editor (Ital/Eng/Ger) on the work’s genesis and performance practiceComprehensive critical commentary (Eng) in the scoreIdiomatic piano reduction

Today the Gloria RV 589 (BA 7674) is one of Vivaldi?s best-known compositions and one of the most frequently performed sacred vocal works from the Baroque period.Vivaldi wrote the ?Gloria? as a self-contained work in the style of a concertante mass. However it was probably also performed within church services. The scoring of the solo voices (SSA) suggests that the work was written during his period at the Ospedale della Piet around 1716. In the twelve movements of the ?Gloria? Vivaldi displays the whole range of his mastery from festive sublime outer movements to tender transparently scored solopassages. The same mastery has also been applied to the ? Kyrie? RV 587 (BA 8950) scored for two choirs and two groups of stringed instruments. The date of its composition remains unclear. It is a purely a choral work without solo passages. Both works can be performed independently but can also be combined as a kind of short mass. Although the authenticity of the autograph manuscript score is beyond doubt these new editions contain some re-evaluations in phrasing and performance practice which go beyond what other editions have to offer. The Piano reductions are straightforward clearly presented and preserve the character of the works.- Attractive choral pieces which can be combined to form a short mass.- Vocal score as well as choral score available for the ?Gloria?.- Informative foreword (Ger/Eng).

John Rutter's Magnificat is a joyous celebration of the Virgin Mary inspired by feast-day festivities in countries such as Spain Mexico and Puerto Rico. Following the example set by Bach the Magnificat text is extended incorporating the fifteenth-century English poem 'Of a Rose' the prayers 'Sancta Maria' and the 'Sanctus' (set to the Gregorian chant of the Missa cum jubilo). (+)
Dramma per musica in three acts-La Calisto one of Cavalli?s most frequently performed operas today was premiered in Venice in 1651 but didn?t achieve its first real breakthrough until the 20th century. The foundation for this success may be the rediscovery of the dramaturgic and musically masterful construction: Faustini interwove several mythological models; the love between the Nymph Kallisto and Jupiter and between Diana and the shepherd Endymion as well as Kallisto?s transformation into a bear and his emanation as a well-known constellation. Numerous amusing minor roles are included and Cavalli succeeded in combining the various storylines and characters to produce an effective musically cohesive whole. This first volume of the new Bärenreiter series of the works of Cavalli presents a critical edition of the musical text and libretto complete with an English translation and provides a comprehensive insight into the development of the genre in Italian opera life of the 17th century.Performance material available for hire.
