A Child Of Our Time is probably Tippett's most celebrated work. It began life in 1938 when Tippett was searching for an appropriate subject for a full-scale oratorio which would be modelled on Handel's Messiah and Bach's Passions. With the Second World War and particularly the news of Kristallnacht in Nazi Germany the idea for A Child Of Our Time was born. He enriched the work with Negro spirituals the perfect modern equivalent to Bach's chorales. The result is an exultant assertion of compassion and brotherhood against all divisions of race or religion. This is the Vocal Score with Piano reduction.

The work was premiered by the Berlin Cathedral Choir on 1 January 1844. As Mendelssohn neither released the work for publication nor produced a vocal score his psalm setting did not appear in print until after his death.For this edition the authoritative Mendelssohn specialist John Michael Cooper drew primarily on the autograph score with its many subsequent corrections and amendments. In this way it differs from many other editions which tend to treat the autograph as a subordinate source. Rounding off the edition are an informative Foreword and a detailed Critical Commentary. The Mass K.262 (246a) is known as Missa longa. Leopold Mozart designated it so next to the incipit on the cover of the autograph collection of five masses in C major by his son. Mozart literature gives the year of origin as 1776 without mentioning the speculative nature of this claim.The monumentality of the Missa longa suggests that the work was written for a particularly solemn occasion. When scanning for outstanding ecclesiastical events in the 1770?s one cannot ignore the consecration of Ignaz Josef Count Spaur coadjutor and administrator of the diocese of Brixen as titular bishop of Chrysopel on 17 November 1776 in the Salzburg cathedral. Erich Schenk claimsthat Leopold Mozart?s mention of Wolfgang?s ?Spaur Mass? in a letter of 28 May 1778 was in reference to the consecration of Ignaz Josef Spaur an old friend of the Mozart family. Mozart?s work would then have to be seen as an homage of a truly personal nature. In spite of the most enthusiastic reception at the work's premiere, the famous pianist and conductor Hans von Bülow criticized Verdi's Messa da Requiem as 'an opera in ecclesiastical robes?. Nonetheless, or maybe precisely for this quality, the work has conquered concert podiums worldwide.For this scholarly-critical edition, the editor has consulted no less than 16 sources, many more than were ever used for any other edition of the Requiem - some of these sources were never evaluated before and one source, a hand-written vocal score, particularly relevant to the evaluation of the 'Liber scriptus?, was newly discovered.As such, this edition offers new philological and editorial decisions regarding phrasing, articulation and dynamics and succeeds in presenting practical suggestions to solve musical problems and those concerning the interpretation of this famous work.This edition comprises a concise Critical Commentary in the score. The most important editions published in the 19th century are compared with regard to musicological questions in the work. The genesis of some misunderstandings included in the 1913 and 1964 Ricordi editions is traced. Cantata for the 4th Sunday of Advent-The cantata Bereitet die Wege is one of the few works by Johann Sebastian Bach of which we know fairly well how it came into being. The autograph full score bears the date 1715; Bach therefore composed the piece for the church service given by the Weimar court orchestra (of which he was the concert master) on 22 December the fourth Sunday in Advent in the year 1715. We even know the author of the words: it was the High Ecclesiastical Secretary in Weimar Salomon Franck who wrote the poem especially for that occasion and had it printed in his annual cycle of cantata texts entitled Evangelisches Andachtsopfer.
