This intimate work opens with a gentle woodwind melody, which gradually becomes more confused as new emotions are introduced. Finally resignation sets in, but a sense of peace and balance is restored with the final chorale. from The Wild Swans Suite. Par KATS-CHERNIN ELENA. Eliza’s Aria is a classical aria from the ballet Wild Swans, composed by Uzbekistan composer Elena Kats-Chernin. The piece was first recorded by soprano Jane Sheldon and the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, and released on the ABC Classics label. This recording was subsequently used in the 2007 Lloyds TSB “For the Journey” television and cinema advertisements and also received extensive radio airplay in December 2007. Poema Sinfonico per Orchestra. Par RESPIGHI OTTORINO. Ottorino Respighi (1879-1936) est considéré comme l'un des plus grands compositeurs italiens du début du XXe siècle. Respighi a composé plusieurs opéras, des ballets, quelques cantates, des oeuvres de musique de chambre et des mélodies pour orgue et piano. Son style unique a été profondément influencé par les impressionnistes français, par Rimski-Korsakov et Richard Strauss. Toutefois, il est surtout connu pour son triptyque symphonique Fontane di Roma (Les Fontaines de Rome), Pini di Roma (Les Pins de Rome) et Feste Romane (Fêtes romaines). Le poème symphonique Feste Romane (Fêtes romaines), dernier volet de la trilogie, est composé de quatre mouvements : Circenses, Il Giubileo, L’Ottobrata et La Befana. Circenses (Jeux dans le Circus Maximus) La Rome antique plébiscitait les jeux du cirque ( circenses, en latin). Ce premier mouvement reflète l’agitation autour des jeux spectaculaires dans l’immense enceinte du Circus Maximus. Il Giubileo (Le Jubilé) Une procession de pèlerins s’approche de la Cité sainte de Rome. Les cloches des églises se mettent à sonner. La musique s’inspire largement d’un chant chrétien occidental. L’Ottobrata (La fête de la moisson d’octobre) En octobre, Rome fête l’Ottobrata. L’atmosphère est joyeuse, on entend des échos de chasse, des airs de danses et des chansons d’amour. Une sérénade romantique s’élève dans la douceur du soir. La Befana (L’Épiphanie) La nuit avant l’Épiphanie, la Piazza Navona est envahie par une foule en liesse qui s’apprête à célébrer la fête des rois. Des rythmes endiablés viennent clore le poème symphonique. Les sémillantes Fêtes romaines d’Ottorino Respighi puisent leur essence dans diverses fêtes historiques.
