Concert Band/Harmonie and Piano SKU: BT.BMP8095417 Composed by Leroy Ande...(+)
Concert Band/Harmonie and Piano SKU: BT.BMP8095417 Composed by Leroy Anderson. Arranged by Jörg Murschinski. Score Only. Composed 2008. Beriato Music #BMP8095417. Published by Beriato Music (BT.BMP8095417). A lot is known about the American composer Leroy Anderson. This son of Swedish immigrants played the piano, organ, accordion, trombone, tuba and double bass. He spoke several languages fluently and graduated from Harvard with first-class honours. While on military service, the army also commissioned him to write a manual on Icelandic grammar. He already started writing musical arrangements as a student, and from his 30th year arranged and composed for the Boston Pops Orchestra. Such melodiesas Serenata, The Typewriter, Sleigh Ride and Buglers Holiday made him world famous. His best-known work, Blue Tango, reached number one in the US charts in 1952, and it sold more than a million copies. In 1975, a year after hisdeath, he was given a star at the Walk of Fame in Hollywood. Most of his works last no longer than three minutes, about the maximum length of a single at that time. One work that lasts longer is his 1953 Piano Concerto in C for piano and orchestra. The first performance was in Chicago, conducted by the composer and with Eugene List at the piano. However, after three performances he was no longer happy with the work and withdrew it. He always intended to revise it, but never got round to it. Itwas only in 1989 that the Anderson family decided to republish the work. This three-part composition is on the one hand characterised by a careless elegance, but on the other one can hear the influence of Rachmaninoff, Copland, Gershwin, and evenBeethoven and Mozart, as well as the Viennese classics.Anderson used the sonata form for the first movement. It ends with a cadenza that carries us on into the second part (in e minor). The third part is a typically cheerful American folk dance in2/4 time, a so-called Hoe Down, with a lilting, lyrical passage as its middle section. At the end comes a solo passage followed by a rapid close. In this piano concerto, Anderson combines a rigidly classical form of composition with simple andappealing themes and elements from light music. So this work is a perfect synthesis of light music and what is called serious music, in the same way as Gershwins Rhapsody in Blue. A work that can be played equally well in a concerthall, at an open-air concert or even a pop concert.

Leroy Anderson (1908-1975), ever-popular in the concert hall for his light orchestral pieces, found a great musical ally in the Boston Pops Orchestra under its director, Arthur Fiedler. Premiering many of his works, they introduced to the world such gems as Sleigh Ride, Jazz Pizzicato, and The Syncopated Clock. In the 1950s, Anderson began to record his music under the Decca label, and out of these sessions came a short piece for orchestra, THE FIRST DAY OF SPRING, first recorded on June 25, 1954. A solo horn introduces the melody, which drifts through the orchestra into an idyllic finish. An American Pops classic in it's original scoring, this work is part of the Anderson Classics Series by E.F. Kalmus. Instrumentation: 2.2.2.2: (3Sax-AAT): 4.3.3.1: Timp: Str (9-8-7-6-5 in set). Fresh from the loss of his oldest daughter Maria Mahler, and knowing he had a serious heart condition, Gustav Mahler (1860-1911) crafted Das Lied von der Erde (The Song of the Earth) in the years 1908 and 1909. The first performance took place on November 20, 1911 at the Tonhalle in Munich, conducted by Bruno Walter. It encompasses six settings of old Chinese poems, four of them by the Tang Dynasty poet Li Bai, loosely translated into German by Hans Bethge. Conscious of his own mortality, Mahler filled his orchestral song cycle with themes of resignation, fading beauty, and autumn loneliness. The last song, roughly the same length as the previous five movements combined, serves as a sprawling, yet deeply personal farewell to both love and life. Instrumentation: 3(3rd dPicc)+Picc.3(3rd dEH).2+BCl+Eb.3(3rd dCBsn: 4.3.3.1: Timp.Perc(4-5): 2Hp.Clst.Mand: Str (9-8-7-6-5 in set): Soli T, A (or Bar). Movements: 1. An exceptionally clever idea, to combine the standard bugle calls into an easy march for beginning students. It is something they already know, and can be successful on right away. We are delighted to welcome composer/educator Chris Ferguson to the Carl Fischer catalog. He brings a wealth of experience working with beginners that has translated into this wonderful new march for young students. Reveille March is inspired by the bugle calls found throughout military history. The “Reveille†call is the signal used to awaken the troops for morning roll call and accompanies the raising of the flag. At the conductor’s discretion, the soli sections (measures 29 and 37) may also be performed as solos in reference to the traditional solo bugle call.“To the Color†(measure 49) is used to signal the end of a soldier’s day. It is also used when a full band is not available to render honors and commands all the same courtesies as our National Anthem. $7.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks | | |

Published by LudwigMasters Publications (AP.36-A134702). UPC: 659359985690. English. Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) wrote his Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 77, in 1878. He composed the work for his longtime friend, famed violinist Joseph Joachim, who premiered it in Leipzig with the Gewandhaussaal on January 1, 1879, Brahms himself conducting. The program also included, at Joachim's insistence, Beethoven's Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 61, on which Brahms modeled his own concerto. While the critical reception of the time was mixed, the audiences at the various early performances received the work well. Most complaints directed at the concerto addressed the role of the solo violin, noting that the soloist does not offer much of the melodic material or include much in the way virtuosic passages, a consequence of looking more towards Beethoven's serious aesthetic rather than Paganini's flashy one. Joachim himself, before a falling out with the composer over personal reasons, included Brahms' concerto among the best German offered, saying: The Germans have four violin concertos. The greatest, most uncompromising is Beethoven's. The one by Brahms vies with it in seriousness. The richest, the most seductive, was written by Max Bruch. But the most inward, the heart's jewel, is Mendelssohn's. Instrumentation: 2.2.2.2: 4.2.0.0: Timp: Str (9-8-7-6-5 in set): Solo Violin in set. LES DJINNS was written at the request of pianist Caroline Montigny-Rémaury, though César Franck's (1822-1890) short work for piano and orchestra was instead premiered on March 15, 1885 by Louis Diémer with the Société Nationale de Musique. The piece is inspired by the poem of the same name in Victor Hugo's LES ORIENTALES, as Franck represents the idea of the mysterious and supernatural forces tearing the nocturnal sky through their passage. Franck was impressed with the virtuosic playing and interpretation of Diémer in this difficult work, which sparked a renewed interest in the piano for the composer.
