SATB vocal soli, SATB choir, flute, 3 oboes, horn, 2 violins, viola, basso continuo SKU: CA.3102605 Cantata for 24th Sunday after Trinity. Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Edited by Till Reininghaus. This edition: urtext. Stuttgart Urtext Edition: Bach vocal. German title: Ach wie fluchtig, ach wie nichtig. Sacred vocal music, End of the church year, Mourning, death. Choral Score. Composed 1724. BWV 26. 4 pages. Duration 17 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 31.026/05. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.3102605). ISBN 9790007115227. Language: German/English. Bach's cantata BWV 26 belongs to the Leipzig cycle of chorale cantatas, 1724/25, and it was first performed on 19 November 1724. The underlying 13-vers hymn by Michael Franck provided Bach and his unidentified librettist with an abundance of metaphors and comparisons which, from verse to verse and movement to movement, illustrate the fleeting and transitory nature of earthly life: an impressive musical-poetic exposition of potent baroque pictures of vanity.. SATB vocal soli, SATB choir SKU: CA.3103605 Cantata for the 1st Sunday...(+)
SATB vocal soli, SATB choir SKU: CA.3103605 Cantata for the 1st Sunday in Advent. Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Edited by Klaus Hofmann. This edition: urtext. Stuttgart Urtext Edition: Bach vocal. Sacred vocal music, Cantatas, Advent, Christmas. Choral Score. Composed 1731. BWV 36. 8 pages. Duration 31 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 31.036/05. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.3103605). ISBN 9790007172275. Language: German/English. Translation: Henry Drinker. Bach's well-known church cantata Schwingt freudig euch empor BWV 36 (Up joyous raise your song), first heard in its final version on First Advent Sunday in 1731 at the Leipzig Nikolaikirche, can be traced back to a secular birthday cantata from 1725. The text is now revised to render the events of Advent - the rejoicing of the opening chorus, the loving veneration and the warm-hearted welcome of the three solo arias retained from the original cantata now all apply to the Messiah, who, as once in Jerusalem, should find a place in the hearts of the faithful. However, their unmistakeable Advent character derives from the fact that Bach contrasts the four festive settings from the secular cantata with three strophes from Luther's Advent chorale, Nun komm, der Heiden Heiland, thus at the same time giving a voice to the Mystery of God made man. SATB/SATB choir, 2 oboes, oboe d'amore, 3 trumpets, timpani, 2 violin, viola, basso continuo - Level 5 SKU: CA.3105057 Chorus for St. Michael's Day. Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Edited by Reinhold Kubik. Arranged by Reinhold Kubik. This edition: Paperbound. German title: Nun Ist Das Heil Und Die Kraft (Kubik). Sacred vocal music, Cantatas, Special days. Study score. Composed circa 1740. BWV 50. 44 pages. Duration 5 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 31.050/57. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.3105057). ISBN 9790007132279. Key: D major. Language: German/English. Composed in the late period, around 1740 A lively discussion about the choral movement Nun ist das Heil und die Kraft has been carried on, in which not only all previous assumptions have been called into question-including Bach's authorship-but also show how little we know about the history of this magnificent movement. Even though there is little to refute the 1982 presumption that the work was handed down in the form of an arrangement, the question remains open concerning the identity of the arranger, as well as the alleged form of the original design. Therefore it seemed appropriate to forego any attempts at reconstruction. Rather, for the present new edition the music has been critically examined and commented upon based on the surviving copy from Bach's circle. SAT vocal soli, SATB choir, 2 oboes, [cornet, 3 trombones], 2 violins, viola, basso continuo SKU: CA.3102314 Cantata for the Sunday Estomihi. Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Edited by Hans Grischkat, Ulrich Leisinger. German title: Du wahrer Gott und Davids Sohn. Sacred vocal music, Cantatas, Mass sections, Lent and Passiontide, Holy Week. Single Part, basso continuo. Composed 1723/24. BWV 23. 8 pages. Duration 20 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 31.023/14. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.3102314). ISBN 9790007042271. Key: C minor. Language: German/English. Bach wrote the cantata Du wahrer Gott und Davids Sohn as a test piece in connection with his application for the position of Cantor of St. Thomas. For reasons unknown, Bach considered it necessary to use a cornett and three trombones to support the chorus - possibly this suggests the poor state of the St. Thomas choir after Kuhnau's death.
