Pour Choeur D'Hommes A Cappella-Scored for a cappella men’s choir (TTBB) Poulenc’s Quatre Petites Prieres de St Francois d’Assise were composed for and dedicated to the monastery choir at Champfleury (and in particular a certain monk there named Frere Jerome who happened to be the composer’s great-nephew).With the use of archaic textures of plainchant and Poulenc’s own harmonic colourings these four pieces create a unique reverence and solemnity.

Thomas Baron Pitfield (1903-1999) was a polymath and one of the last of the generation of English composers which came to prominence after the Second World War. Along with his contemporaries such as Michal Tippet andAlan Rawsthorne he helped to revitalise English classical music following the deaths of Elgar Holst and Delius. Apart from composing a vast amount of music most of which has now sadly been forgotten he was also an accomplishedbookbinder calligrapher artist poet cabinet maker and teacher. The Parting Glass by Sarah Quartel for TTBB unaccompanied.The Parting Glass is a traditional Scottish song often sung as a farewell at the end of a get-together. Sarah Quartel's arrangement features close harmonies idiomatic Scotch snap rhythms and effective interjectory moments in what is a largely homophonic setting. With its valedictory message it would make a fitting end to a performance perhaps as an encore item.

Eric Lane Barnes has a very unique writing style and he has done it again with the choral Glee! This creative a cappella gem is quite entertaining hearkening back to the days of the glee club songs of Yale and Harvard.This work is an excellent tool to teach harmonics. 2014 marks the 200th anniversary of the writing of Francis Scott Key's piece that became our National Anthem. Tim Sharp Executive Director of ACDA saw an opportunity for choirs all across America to stand together in harmony and celebration.
