In a stately march tempo Nobles of the Sword features tonal centers in A minor and C major and is written in tutti style with ample opportunities to teach common rhythms (including dotted quarter/eighth note).

In this jubilant new treatment, we hear four less-common carols---'The Holly and the Ivy,' 'Good Christian Men, Rejoice,' 'Sussex Carol,' and 'Rejoice and Be Merry.' Parts lie well on every instrument. The second violin and viola parts are doubled. Bass and cello are often in unison. Throughout the piece, all sections are often in rhythmic unison.
