As recorded on Libertango ! Hommage to Astor Piazzolla by the HR Big Band (Germany), this arrangement will surely lift your audiences out of their seats. It features a main soloist of your choice (originally recorded with bandoneon solo) and another solo for tenor saxophone. Various parts are included for different soloists to use. This marvelous arrangement opens with warm sounds in clarinets, muted trombones and flugelhorns behind the beautiful melody stated by the primary soloist. The setting is a medium tango, with a short, exciting swing section near the end of the chart. Once the piece moves into a strong, rock-fusion feel, there is no turning back. You and your band will love this chart. This requires clarinet doubles on the top 3 saxophone parts and bass clarinet on the baritone part. There is also a mallet part (marimba, vibes and xylophone). 5-4-4-5.

A monumental piece of big band jazz. This was written for Les' fantastic Chicago band. It is an extensive work (about 12 minutes) which features trumpet (or flugelhorn) throughout in various settings and styles, based on one of the most beautiful melodies Les has ever written. There are also piano solos. Woodwind players must be good doublers and it is well worth the effort. This is certainly one of Hooper's most dynamic and interesting creations (among a great many)! As recorded on the Dorian Blue LP. 5-4-4-3.

This arrangement continues the Radiohead Jazz Project and adds another wonderful talent to the list of outstanding RJP writers. Omar Thomas has arranged this emotional heavy-rock ballad, focusing on the solo voice of the trombone. There is also solo space for piano. There are flute, clarinet and bass clarinet doubles. Rich DeRosa, Professor of Jazz Composition at the University of North Texas, has composed a fascinating, brooding, and pensive melody of 'Mixed Emotions.' Set in a very contemporary feel with lush harmonies and reasonable brass ranges (highest note for trumpet is a written B), this flugelhorn feature also includes wonderfully written ensemble passages and will enchant your band and audiences alike. Originally recorded by the UNT One O'Clock Lab Band on their album Lab 2014, this piece requires woodwind doubles (clarinet). 5-4-4-4.

Omar Thomas has written a stunning, contemporary piece reminiscent of the style of the Pat Metheny Group. It has a straight-eighths feel with solos for piano and trombone. This is a lovely, cool, easy-swing chart that explores linear material as written for and recorded by the North Texas One O'clock Lab Band (Lab 2013). Flute and bass clarinet doubles are required, and the drummer is featured throughout with brushes. This piece has the feel of a theme and variations, and contains very rich harmonies and voicings. 5-4-4-4.

Recorded by the University of North Texas One O'Clock Lab Band on their CD Lab 2014, Drew uses theme and variation to take this marvelous, swinging melody into challenging, extensive and exciting places. In addition to featuring the depth of your ensemble, including woodwind doubles, lots of counterpoint, and tempo and style changes, there is also solo space for alto saxophone and trumpet. This chart is from the I REMEMBER BILL - a tribute to Bill Evans CD arranged and conducted by Don Sebesky! All of these incredible pieces require a mature band, soloists and woodwind doublers. Although these charts are not for the faint-of-heart, they are well worth the time and effort to perform.
