Par DE HAAN JACOB. La ville de Zevenhuizen (Sept Maisons), dans la province néerlandaise de Groningen, a conçu l?idée de réunir 777 musiciens pour un concert expérimental à ciel ouvert. C?est dans ce contexte que Jacob de Haan a été prié d?écrire une ?uvre pour célébrer le cinquantenaire de Concordia, l?association musicale locale. Le nombre total de musiciens n?a pas été tout à fait atteint, mais cela n?a pas empêché l?événement d?être un grand succès. Maintenant, la musique a été publiée dans une compilation qui rassemble les mélodies les plus attrayantes dans divers styles de rock et de ballades. Arr. Jacob De Haan. Par ALBINONI TOMASO. Tomaso Albinoni (1671-1751) est né à Venise. Il est le fils aîné d’un riche marchand. Dès son plus jeune âge, il développe un réel talent pour le chant et surtout pour le violon, et se met rapidement à composer. Albinoni a vécu et travaillé toute sa vie durant à Venise, mais a également séjourné à Florence et à Munich. Dans sa jeunesse, Albinoni compose de la musique sacrée mais sans grand succès. En 1694, il attire l’attention du public vénitien lors de la représentation de son premier opéra Zenobia, Regina de Palmireni (Zenobia, reine de Palmireni). Ses premières oeuvres de musique instrumentale datent de la même année. Par la suite, Albinoni se consacre surtout à lacomposition d’oeuvres vocales (opéras et cantates) et instrumentales (sonates et concertos). C’est en travaillant sur la biographie d’Albinoni, au sortir de la Deuxième Guerre mondiale, que le musicologue milanais, Remo Giazotto, découvre à la Bibliothèque Nationale de Dresde, un manuscrit inédit, sur lequel est basé le célèbre Adagio. Il semblerait que les six mesures de la mélodie et la ligne de basse retrouvées aient constitué un passage d’un mouvement lent d’une sonate à trois. Vers 1945, en partant de ces éléments, Remo Giazotto reconstitue une oeuvre, célèbre de nos jours, comme l’ Adagio d’Albinoni, alors qu’Albinoni lui-même ne serait probablement plus en mesure de reconnaître sa pièce. / Niveau : 2 / Date parution : 1905-06-24/ Répertoire / Fanfare

Par DE HAAN JACOB. This musical fantasy depicts the history of the Dutch fortified town of Elburg. The work begins with an atmospheric medieval picture of the Convent of St Agnes, the nunnery that was built in the first half of the 15th century. We hear the sound of the convent bells together with an upward motif, which will reappear later in the work. Next, the rest of Elburg is featured, including the fortress - from which the bells of the Sint-Nicolaaskerk (Saint Nicholas Church) are ringing. Then, cheerful sounds can be heard at the Vischpoort (Fish Gate), where a dancing group is performing a 16th century French folk dance (a branle des chevaux). We also hear old wagons rumbling over the town’scobble stones. Trade made this Hanseatic town a lively place. The repetitive upward motif first heard in the introduction now develops into a more distinct feature, reflecting the mercantile spirit of the town residents. Then follows the slow middle movement, in which the clock has been turned back to the time when Elburg was still lying on the Zuiderzee (which was a bay of the North Sea), and was struggling with floods. After the second St. Marcellus Flood (1362) and the water flood of 1367 it was decided that the town would be relocated. We now hear the theme of branle des chevaux in a minor key, followed by a death bell sounding in remembrance of the drowned citizens of the former town. Back in our own time, a slow, expressive theme in Baroque style mirrors Elburg’s tranquil places, such as the Feithenhof (Feithen Court) and the Weduwenhofje (Widow Court). Then the bustle returns with motifs from the introduction, followed by an attractive theme in which present-day Elburg is portrayed with its many tourists. Now, suddenly, there is an echo from the past, depicting the dramatic floods and wars that once plagued the town. This leads to the grand closing theme: branle des chevaux is heard for a final time from the perspective of the historic town centre. / Niveau : 4 / Pièce de concert / Répertoire / Fanfare

Arr. Philip Sparke. Par MILES JOHN. Born in Jarrow, northeast England, in 1949, John Miles was something of a child prodigy, learning the piano from the age of five. In the early ’60s he persuaded his father to buy him a guitar and by the end of the decade he had joined a semi-professional band, The Influence. The group soon disbanded and by 1969 Miles was recording with his own group, The John Miles Band, releasing a dozen singles in the early ’70s. In 1975 Miles decided to move to London and secured a deal with Decca Records. Pour Précéder La Péri. Par DUKAS PAUL. Paul Dukas (1865-1935) was a composer who had little self-confidence and was very self-critical. As a result of this he destroyed the manuscripts of all but seven large and five small works. Luckily kept what is now his best know composition, the symphonic scherzo L’apprenti sorcier (The Sorcerer’s Apprentice). He also came very close to destroying the manuscript of his ballet music La Peri (The Fairy). This was however rescued by his friends. Thus we can still enjoy this magnificent fanfare which was originally used as an opener for the ballet. Par RIEDEMANN PETER. Paso Bella is full of the typical fiery and melodic characteristics of the paso doble. The hot Spanish temperament can be heard from the opening themes in the minor key, as is usual in a paso doble, to the last bars of the trio. Arr. Klaas Van Der Woude. Since his first successes in the 1990s the amiable popular singer Frans Bauer has grown into a megastar in the Netherlands. In Germany, too, he has a great number of fans. Although he is derided by many because of his schmalzy style, Frans Bauer sells CDs galore, attracts full houses everywhere and can be viewed in his own reality soap on television. In 2004 he was even awarded a Gouden Harp (Gold Harp), which is the most important prize within Dutch music. It is presented to artists and composers who have promoted Dutch light music in their own unique way during their career. The cheery singalong Heb je even voor mij (Got a Minute for Me) is a great top hit: a winner in everypub and at parties.
