The cantata dates from Bach's time in Weimar. The instrumental scoring of four violas and basso continuo - in the Leipzig performances enhanced by two recorders doubling viola I and II at the octave - is unique in Bach's cantata oeuvre. It lends a dark, luxurious sound to the four movements which is gently illuminated by the recorders. The work - with its instrumental sinfonia, a short secco recitative and an extended accompagnato recitative (both of which contain arioso inserts), a short soprano aria and a simple closing chorale - makes no great demands on the performing forces. Admirers of text interpretation by means of instrumental figuration will be richly rewarded. Score available separately - see item CA.3101800.

A unison carol in German and English scored for unison choir, two violins, and a viola. The strings provide a lot of movement. Very festive. The instrumental parts, which add a festive character to the piece, are flexible: three violins, flute and two violins, flute or violin, violin and viola. In 1988, GIA released Michael Joncas’s No Greater Love, a flexible mass setting offering cathedral-style music that was accessible to the singing assembly. Beautiful melodies enhanced by SATB choir and extensive orchestrations were the hallmark of this best-selling work. Now, Michael Joncas has revised this treasured setting using the 2010 Revised Order of Mass. The revision has a new through-composed Gloria that can be sung in unison during the Sundays of Ordinary Time, and for more festive occasions, one can add the optional instrumental and SATB choral parts. Also new to this setting are the gospel acclamation and a sung setting of the prayer of the faithful. The memorable congregational parts for the Kyrie and the Agnus Dei haven’t changed and the much-loved Holy, Holy has been adapted to accommodate the 2010 Revised Order of Mass text. The optional orchestration is now reduced and includes string quartet, flute, and oboe parts.

Since its original publication in 1971, A Community Mass has become a staple for many parishes. Due to its wide use and inclusion in various denominational hymnals, additional material and new instrumentations were periodically created by the composer. These enrichments have made A Community Mass adaptable to a variety of circumstances and forces-from cantor, assembly, and organ to performances by choir and assembly with small or large instrumental ensembles in addition to organ. Thus an ordinary setting is transformed into a festive setting in the appropriate liturgical context. The current edition contains Proulx's own alterations for incorporating the 2010 Revised Order of Mass.

French composer and teacher, Darius Milhaud (1892-1974) was a prolific composer of the 20th century as a member of 'Les Six'. His compositions remain highly regarded, Jacob's Dreams being no exception. Milhaud's compositions areinfluenced by jazz and polytonality, as exemplified in Jacob's Dreams. Composed in 1949, Jacob's Dreams is a dance suite, written for Oboe, Violin, Viola, Cello and Double Bass. It is an alternative, exciting suite, based on thedreams of Jacob in the Bible and made up of five movements - 1) Jacob's Pillow, 2) The first dream (the angel's ladder), 3) Prophecy, 4) Second dream (fight with the dark angel and benediction), and 5) Israel (Hymn). Milhaud makesuse of variation in articulation, complex rhythms, chromaticism, accidentals, harmonics, altering tempos, variation in dynamics and a wide tessitura, amongst other aspects. Milhaud's Jacob's Dream is essential to all advancedensembles seeking modern and exciting repertoire.
