In 2013 Mealor composed With A Friend Like You for the final of the second season of the BBC 2 series 'The Choir: Sing while you work'. All three choirs of the final presented the song at Ely Cathedral. The P&O choir was declared winner. John Rutter's Magnificat is a joyous celebration of the Virgin Mary inspired by feast-day festivities in countries such as Spain Mexico and Puerto Rico. Following the example set by Bach the Magnificat text is extended incorporating the fifteenth-century English poem 'Of a Rose' the prayers 'Sancta Maria' and the 'Sanctus' (set to the Gregorian chant of the Missa cum jubilo). The full scores for orchestra or chamber ensemble are now available on sale for the first time in handsome cloth-bound editions and the newly set orchestral parts are available on hire.

Joseph Martin Kraus [1756–1792] composed his Requiem in 1775at the age of 19 for the parish church in his hometown of Buchen Odenwald. This followed the Miserere of 1773 and is the second of his surviving sacred compositions. Already in this early work Kraus shows that he was a representative of the musical “Sturm und Drang.” With all its youthful unconcern towards compositional technique this music displays his seriousness and strength of expression together with a dark instrumental timbre as well as an abruptness or at times brusqueness. The publication of the Requiem in the Complete Edition is the first historical and critical edition of the work

With this opera ? his second dramma serio for San Bartolomeo in less than two years ? the young composer (who had already acquired considerable professional stature in the city?s theatres churches and aristocratic circles) reprised a perennially popular subject centered aroundthe dramatic conflict between filial piety and devotion to one?s betrothed. Inserted between the opera?s three acts were the intermezzi of La serva padrona which would soon go on to take all of Europe by storm. The primary source for this edition is a manuscript copy of the score currently housed in the Conservatorio di Musica ?San Pietro a Majella? in Naples and prepared by Giuseppe Sigismondo who was quite probably working from the now-lost autograph. Two other significant manuscript copies of the score also housed in Naples (respectively in the Biblioteca Oratoriana dei Girolamini and the aforementioned conservatory) were consulted along with a number of manuscript copies of individual arias. The edition is furnished with a historical introduction which traces the libretto?s complicated literary lineage and illustrates the circumstances of the opera?s commission genesis premiere and subsequent history: and a critical apparatus containing detailed source descriptions and critical notes for both the text and the music. An earlier version of the last movement of the Sinfonia and an aria for the third act whose text does not appear in the original printed libretto are provided as appendices.

Purcell Dido and Aeneas (Full Score, paperback) The opera ?Dido and Aeneas?, a recount of the well-known story from Book IV of Virgil's Aeneid, has established itself as a favourite with the public. This is due to the skill of composer Henry Purcell and his librettist Nahum Tate, who combined an overriding tragic theme with masterfully inserted comic episodes. Long believed to have been conceived in 1689 for a performance at a ?School for Young Gentlewomen?, scholars have debated the origins of ?Dido? in recent decades, a process hampered by the lack of early musical sources. This edition addresses these challenges and evaluates the earliest sources that reproduce the opera in its surviving form. Surprisingly, these date from the 1770s and 80s, some ninety years after the work was written. Three key manuscripts ? now held at the Bodleian Library in Oxford (UK), at Tatton Park Library which is a National Trust property near Manchester (UK), and at the Wakayama Prefectural Library (Japan) - were all copied from the same original, most likely a handwritten score from 1704 which reappeared in the early 1770s, only to disappear again. This is the first 'Dido' edition based on the Tatton Park manuscript as the main source. It was produced during the second half of the 18th century by Philip Hayes, one of England's most prominent musicians. He was known in musicology for his meticulous copies of Purcell's music, often from the autograph manuscripts. The autograph of the Missa brevis K.192 (186f) known as the Little Credo Mass (because of the Credo calls interspersed in the text of the third movement) is dated Salzburg 24 June 1774. This Mass intended for Sundays and minor feasts was in any case written for Salzburg Cathedral in the archives of which is preserved an authentic set of parts containing markings by Mozart and his father. When the master journeyed to Paris in 1777 he took the autograph of this work along with him leaving it with the canons of Heilig Geist Kloster in Augsburg to have parts copied out.According to Abert (who wrote a classic biography of Mozart) this work is considered 'by manyto be the high point of Mozart's 'youthful Masses'' and 'as far as the motivic unity of the individual movements and the strengthening of the contrapuntal element is concerned goes far beyond everything composed hitherto'.Urtext of the New Mozart EditionFull score performance material (BA4770) and vocal score (BA4770-90) available for sale.

D-Dur-The Gloria in D Major RV 589 is Vivaldi's most famous sacred work and it is among his most important church music compositions. An independent work in one movement it was probably composed between 1713 and 1717 for the Ospedale della Pietà one of the orphanages of Venice in which young girls received a thorough musical training. The musically representative work is divided into 12 sections which differ in scoring movement type key and expressed emotions.

Even if the authenticity of this statement, which was quoted by Anton Schindler, may be doubted, it reflects quite well the confusion that the Mass in C may have caused its commissioner, Prince Nicholas II Esterházy, in 1807. Unconventional for those times, here Beethoven opened up entirely new worlds of expression for the liturgical text, opening up new avenues for the further development of mass compositions in the 19th century. This important work of choral literature can now be performed by smaller forces thanks to this arrangement for soloists, choir and chamber orchestra. Instead of 12, just 5 wind instruments are required. The string parts can also be played by single soloists; the performance material contains suggestions about how to deal with the divisi passages. The Magnificat in B flat major casts a completely unexpected light on the young composer, on the threshold of composing his great church works. Around 5 minutes in length, and in the spirit of Mozart, it was written in 1852 for a service at the Monastery Church of St. Florian. With its concise form and scoring for small forces it offers many opportunities for use.
