Following the huge success of their instrumental method Look, Listen and Learn, Michiel Oldenkamp and Jaap Kastelein have focussed their attention on school bands and devised a completely new method that can be used in both instrumental lessons and class bands or wind ensembles.
Learning Music Together is the new method for young wind players and percussionists, aged eight and above.
Learning Music Together has been developed in close collaboration with professionals from the class band world, music schools, and academies in the Netherlands and Germany.
Learning Music Together combines instrumental lessons with a course for class band. The tuba lessons offer tuba -specific items such as new notes and technical exercises while at the same time supporting the learning of the class band, with a focus on rhythm, melodic structure and playing music together. The method consists of two volumes. Volume One introduces the first instrumental notes in unison and then develops part-playing with duets. Volume Two builds on the skills taught in the first volume and introduces pieces in three parts. In addition, supplementary material is available on the extensive website, e.g. demo- and accompaniment tracks for all pieces, additional pieces of music (well-known songs) and video tutorials. Learning Music Together is logically structured and illustrated in a child-friendly way - a perfect combination for young musicians!

Working Zone is the area where you make personal progress. In Working Zone the things you practice are not too difficult or too easy, but they are challenging enough. Regular, dedicated and focused practicing in the Working Zone will improve your playing skills. Find your Working Zone daily. Work there slowly and systematically. Be patient. Focus on practicing the things you really need to. Try always to be aware why you are doing what you are doing. In this publication, the authors wanted to gather, combine and clearly explain, what in their opinion are the most important things to practice. The book is written with tuba in mind, but the exercises are universal: any low brass instrument, any bass clef instrument is applicable.

William Bell's Tuba Interpretations of Blazevich is a bit of a misleading title, it is really intended for all low brass instruments. It takes you through 50 Blazevich study re-interpreatations for low brass and gives you intermittant direction about what to focus on as you play them. As a part of Bell's Complete Method it offers a musical and stylistic expedition as part of a well rounded routine.

“French Tuba player, Fernand Lelong (1939-2002) is best remembered as a prolific professor of the Tuba and Bass Trombone at the Paris Conservatoire. As an experienced, significant player of the instrument, his Special Exercises for Flexibility and Scales are very well-informed. Compiled for B flat Euphonium and Tenor and Bass Tuba, the first volume of Special Exercises for Flexibility and Scales focuses on flexibility, addressing, fingering, intervals of fourths, fifths, sixths and octaves, triplets, ascending and descending scales, and covers a wide range, amongst other aspects. For all aspiring bass brass players, Lelong's Special Exercises for Flexibility and Scales ensures progression in technique.&rdquo.
