19th-century Italian guitar composer wrote these variations on a popular opera of that time, La Gloire et l'Amour by François-Adrien Boieldieu, which premiered in Paris in 1816. Giuliani is said to have been inspired to compose this variation after attending the Viennese premiere of the opera in 1818. While appearing simple, the Romance theme is preceded by his weighty and almost dramatic short introduction in the key of C minor. For advanced players.

In his op. 112 Beethoven sets the two poems by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe Meeresstille (Calm Sea) and Gluckliche Fahrt (Prosperous Voyage). Several sketches reveal that Beethoven had already begun to take an interest in the poems by the end of 1814. The composer conducted the premiere at a benefit concert for the Viennese Citizens' Hospital Fund in 1815. As the publication of this work was long in coming, the dedicatee Goethe received a copy of the score only in May 1822. A few months later Beethoven inquired of him: [...] how lovely would it be to know, if I appropriately united my harmonies with yours. Also enlightenment on what is to be seen as truth, would be dearly appreciated, as I love the latter above all, and never shall be said: Veritas odium parit. The old but commendable Breitkopf material has now been definitively replaced by the new edition based on the Complete Beethoven-Edition, save for the tried and true piano reduction by Carl Reinecke, which boasts more than simply historical merits. Its existence is assured by the revised and simplified form in which it appears in the new piano reduction. It will no doubt long continue being a much appreciated aid at choral rehearsals. In the piano vocal score the articulation and dynamics were adapted to the music text of the Complete Edition. The sun recently began shining from a cloudless sky on Beethoven's Meeres Stille und Gluckliche Fahrt (Calm Sea and Prosperous Voyage) after the publication of the piano reduction and choral score which signalize the completion of the performance material based on the new Beethoven Complete Edition. Just like Joseph Haydn's E flat major concerto Hob VIIe:1 (1796), Hummel's Trumpet Concerto in E major of 1803 was also written for the Viennese soloist Anton Weidinger, who performed on a keyed trumpet that could produce the chromatic tones of an entire scale a unique achievement at that time. The work features unmistakable allusions to Mozart and even has a literal quote from a Cherubini opera in the final movement. Today, Hummel's concerto, next to the Haydn piece, is considered as THE classical trumpet concerto. It is no doubt thanks to this unique status that the work has been available in a transposition to E flat major since 1957, a version that better suits the B flat trumpet widely used today. The Urtext edition respects this performance-practical aspect: The piano reduction as well as the study score contain both versions. The score and orchestral parts can be obtained in two different editions. While this being one of the few urtext, it may be the only edition published in both the original tonality of E major and the often-preferred key of E-flat major. Additionally, the edition contains some interesting insights on the concerto and keyed trumpet. (Luis C. Engelke, Music Reviews Editor).

Anton Bruckner composed his Requiem in D minor at the young age of 24 in memory of a friend of his father's who was his patron. The work was greatly influenced by the Viennese classical style. He revised the work at the age of 70 in 1894 and held it in high regard throughout his career, even though his setting never enjoyed the popularity of similar works by Mozart or Verdi in the concert repertoire. The new edition now published represents the revised version, which can be regarded as a very personal, and at the same time impressive compositional testimony to Bruckner's artistic development on his journey towards becoming the great church musician and symphonist. Bruckner set the text of the Requiem Mass in a relatively compact form in terms of extent and scoring. The range of compositional colors stretches from Alpine-influenced writing for male voice choir (Hostias), to a five-part choral movement (Sanctus) and an unaccompanied movement (Requiem), to movements with choir and soloists. Score and parts available separately - see item CA.2732000.

The Urtext edition of what is arguably the most often played double-bass work of all was long overdue. The work was previously available only in an abridged and arranged form. The edition departs from the sole extant source, a set of parts from the estate of the composer and double-bass virtuoso Johannes Sperger. The score and orchestral parts as well as the piano reduction are printed in E major as well as D major so as to make the work playable both in orchestral or Viennese tuning as well as in solo tuning. The piano reduction contains additional cadenzas by the editor.I hope players will convert to this edition.(Clifford Bartlett, in: Early Music Review, No. 142, June 2011)An exciting addition to the bassist's library. This definitive score will assist teachers and performers alike.(Marian Heckenburg, AUSTA Stringendo).

Ukrainian Sketches, written in 1941, is the last surviving work by the Polish-Ukrainian composer Józef Koffler. Originally a follower of the Second Viennese School, Koffler, himself a professor and functionary in Soviet Ukraine, had to change his style in the face of enormous political pressure. Despite the harsh circumstances, these six miniatures for string quartet are free of all kitsch of 'socialist realism' and radiate an independent expressiveness and immediate lyricism in the interweaving of Eastern European folklore and the classical string quartet tradition.
