Book 2-The Light Touch is a fabulous collection of graded pieces for Alto Saxophone and Piano. The two volumes have been edited by Gordon Lewin. This is the second book for intermediate to advanced players from grade 4 all the way to grade 8. There are five glorious examples of Light saxophone music in various styles all of which are characterised by the light touch!

Composed between 1920 and 1921 Stories is a suite of ten short movements by Jacques Ibert (1890-1962) a neoclassical composer who won the Prix de Rome in 1919. Initially written for Piano only and later arranged for Saxophone and Piano this publication was commissioned by Alphonse Leduc editor and increased Jacques Ibert’s popularity. The ten pieces are as follows: 1. La meneuse de tortures d’or (The golden Turtles leader) 2. Le petit âne blanc (The little white donkey) 3. Le vieux mendicant (The old beggar) 4. “A Giddy girl” 5. Dans la maison triste (In thesad house) 6. Le palais abandonné (The abandoned palace) 7. Bajo la mesa (Under the table) 8. La cage de cristal (The crystal cage) 9. La marchande d’eau fraiche (The fresh water merchant) 10. Le cortège de Balkis (Balkis’ march) Jacques Ibert (1890-1962) also composed many symphonic suites operas and seven orchestras including 'Angelique' (1926) and 'Divertissement' (1930). He also was in charge of the French Academy in the Villa Médicis (Roma) and was later administrator for the Paris Opera.

Clémence de Grandval (1828-1907) est l'une des rares femmes dont les compositions furent données régulièrement en création, lors de la seconde moitié du XIXo siècle.Tout d'abord élève de Flotow, elle se perfectionna auprès de C. Saint-Saëns, qui lui prodigua de nombreux encouragements à persévérer dans cette voie, en dépit des préjugés sexistes de ses pairs.On lui doit de nombreuses oeuvres, touchant tous les genres : musique instrumentale, musique de chambre, musique symphonique, musique religieuse, opéra? Au concert, l'ensemble de sa production fut toujours très bien accueillie, tant par le grand public que par la critique.En 1878, elle signa un concerto pour hautbois à l'intention de Georges Gillet, professeur au Conservatoire. Ce même artiste est le dédicataire d'une suite de ' 4 morceaux ' pour cor anglais et piano, parus en 1865 (seuls deux morceaux ont été édités, sur les quatre prévus initialement). La présente restitution propose ces deux pièces dans une version pour saxophone alto, instrument dont le registre est rigoureusement identique à celui du cor anglais, ce dernier étant très rarement usité en musique instrumentale. / Saxophone Et Piano Ou Orgue
