A text by Lisa M. Clark set for SATB and piano by Jeffrey Blersch. The text was inspired by the parable of the dishonest manager (Luke 16:1 - 13) and will help Christians wrestle with the concepts of living in a broken world to make an eternal difference. The music presents a warm melodic setting of the text, and each choral part gets to sing the melody.
Look with eyes that see forever,Faithful to the Lord's design.Work within the world, but neverChoose its call o'er things divine.Nothing on this earth can sever You from love that will refine,You from love that will refine.
Serve with hands that toil unceasing,Diligent in great and small. With the Kingdom's realm increasing,Rob the devil's lair of all.Joyous souls, their bonds releasing,Sing their rescue from the fall,Sing their rescue from the fall.
Love with hearts that will not waverUnderneath the fearsome fight.Show the weary Jesus' favor, Won to make creation right. By all means, bring all to savorMercies rich and glories bright,Mercies rich and glories bright.

Emily Dickinson's two poems entitled Ending and Dawn provide the ideal backdrop for an experience that begins in darkness and ends in a burst of light and mystery. Meredith Tompkins' interpretation of the two texts centers on the multi-faceted meanings of each poem, exploring themes of lost youth, leaving home, mortality, destiny and hope. Audiences and choirs alike will experience Dickinson's poignant words through haunting melodies, vivid text-painting, dynamic contrast, minimalist soundscapes and melodic layering that gradually builds to intense and thought-provoking conclusions.Ending:That is solemn we have ended, —Be it but a play,Or a glee among the garrets,Or a holiday,Or a leaving home; or later,Parting with a worldWe have understood, for betterStill it be unfurled. Dawn:Not knowing when the dawn will comeI open every door;Or has it feathers like a bird,Or billows like a shore?

An ethereal gentleness starts this piece that briefly recounts the story of the shepherds and the Magi. Choral writing with a dream-like quality supports the soloist. This is a great choice for that singer in your choir who can maintain a beautiful line, but perhaps does not possess a large range—optional notes are indicated at the end, when the melody may go a bit high for some. For cantor or soloist. 2 octaves Handbells or Handchimes.

Make Ye Merry uses an anonymous 15th century text with both Latin and English in a joyous, dancelike setting. Mr. Jones has contrasted both the joy and the mystery of Christ's birth in music that is by turns lyric and playful. The ecstatic joy of the Alleluia peals forth brilliantly in this work. There is the rhythmic underpinning that comes from the oldest traditions of the carol while the harmony and vocal lines are more contempory in sound. The organ part is challenging and colorful in style. Make Ye Merry would make a superb finale to any carol concert.

The entire story of Christ’s passion is told in this anthem—the fateful night, the bitter scene, the Body broken—it’s all there. Even though betrayed, Christ spoke words of love, reminded us of his broken body, and told us that we would celebrate this event while waiting for the marriage supper that will take place when he returns. The music portrays the powerful forces working against him, but also reminds us of his coming again in glory.
