A fanfare introduces This festive march is introduced by a lively fanfare which leads into the first playful melodic line which features a regular dynamic alternation and a light syncopated rhythm. After the traditional bass solo the first theme returns. The initial theme performed by piano and cantabile trio later sounds in a jubilant forte with various figurations in the higher woodwinds. The fine work Mountain March is suitable as a street march but will also gain much appreciation on the concert platform.

The film score for this hit movie features magnificent adventure themes along with hints of Celtic influences. Sean O'Loughlin's expertly scored arrangement will provide a fresh and appealing addition to a pops or light concert setting.

In 1938 Shostakovich composed his Second Jazz Suite at the request of the recently founded State Orchestra for Jazz conducted by Victor Knushevitsky.This suite was originally scored for a complete symphony orchestra to which four saxophones an accordion and a guitar had been added. The Jazz Suite no. 1 in three movements composed in 1934 had been written for a smaller ensemble. The title 'Jazz Suite' is rather misleading as the composer definitely uses the style of light music. Back in 1928 the twenty-two-year-old Shostakovich had already composed some light music.A bet among friends to make an orchestration of the popular song 'Tea for Two' in less thenone hour time caused him to compose 'Tahiti Trot'. Shostakovich easily won the bet as he completed the original and witty arrangement within only forty minutes!

Nightlife in Paris. The magnificent shows at the Moulin Rouge have left their mark on the collective imagination of all who read about them. For decades, a small but spectacular band formed one of the basic ingredients in this internationally famed cabaret theatre. With the first sounds of this composition by Peter Kleine Schaars, the exciting Parisian nightlife immediately comes to mind. The musette takes us to quartier Pigalle, the red-light district of Paris, and when the doors of the Moulin Rouge open, we hear the recognizable rhythms of a contemporary disco: a combination of the rhythmic cells 8 / 4 and 3 / 14. In addition, the composition has been highlighted with a plentiful and varied use of rhythmic cell 5. Naturally, the themes and accompaniments have been divided equally among all parts.

This light hearted fun arrangement starts out in a mellow jazzy mambo - rock ballad and then goes into a sizzling hot driving mambo that will give your audience and maybe even your band dancing in their seats.

“Cathedral Grove” is a magnificent park on Vancouver Island in British Columbia Canada containing some of the oldest and largest trees in the world. It is the towering majestic pillars of these ancient giants andthe quiet serenity of this place that inspired this music. Evocative and impressionistic in nature Robert Buckley's writing depicts the richness of the colors and textures and the diffused light shining through the canopy ofleaves above. The Marbled Midnight Mile is a companion to Bryant's earlier works Dusk and First Light – the three of them together forming a loosely-related “night cycle.” The title evokes an extended journeythrough the myriad wandering thoughts that occur in the solitude of night. The music makes only modest technical demands of the ensemble but is a perfect vehicle to expand the band's musical maturity and sensitivity. Dur: 8:00(Grade 4)
