by Hubay and Sarasate for Violin and Piano. Par SARASATE PABLO DE / HUBAY JENO. Georges Bizet\'s opera Carmen had its first performance in Paris in 1875. In the audience was the 17-year-old Hungarian violin virtuoso and budding composer Jenö Hubay. After the performance Hubay started writing his Carmen Fantasy from memory. The following season for his debut recital in Paris, he included his newly created composition. It is a lyrical work of great beauty and brilliance. Hubay combined his career of a concertizing virtuoso, composer and violin pedagogue. At the Royal Conservatory in Brussels he became the successor of Vieuxtemps and Wieniawski. Later, Franz Liszt invited Hubay to lead the violin department in the newly created Budapest Music Academy. He created the world-renowned Hungarian school of violin playing. His student, Franz von Vecsey, recorded theCarmen Fantasy in 1904 at age 11! His other students included Joseph Szigeti, Zoltán Szekely, Sándor Végh, Endre Gertler, György Garay and many more. Hubay was a very active composer, creating over 120 works including operas, ballets, concertos, songs and instrumental compositions. Pablo de Sarasate wrote his Carmen Fantasy in 1882. It is a composition of drama and passion, written with his unparalleled brilliance for violin writing. Sir Peter Maxwell Davies is universally acknowledged as one of the foremost composers of our time and as he reaches his 75th birthday in 2009 he remains prolific. The sonata for violin and piano was written for the virtuoso violinist, Ilya Gringolts and first performed at the St Magnus Festival in Orkney in 2008. The work is principally concerned with Italian architecture and the music takes both performers and audience across an imaginary walkway over Rome as proposed by the architect Giuseppe Rebecchini. Starting at the 17th Century Chiesa Nuova the exceptional journey passes Renaissance churches, exhibition spaces, the river Tiber, glass façades, sculptures and even a prison where a Lazio folk tune can be heard echoing from behind the walls. Stanley Weiner (1925-1951) est principalement connu comme un interprète : un violoniste solo. À l'âge de 8 ans, peu de Stanley a donné des spectacles solos, auditionné pour Leonard Bernstein en 1947 et devenue ainsi le plus jeune violoniste principal de l'Orchestre symphonique de New York. La carrière de compositeur de Weiner a commencé assez tard, à l'âge de 35 ans, mais ensuite, il a écrit plus de 200 oeuvres, musique instrumentale particulièrement de tous genres. La ' Suite Amérique latine ', dédié à la violoniste virtuose, David Oistrach, est une oeuvre qui commence avec un balayage virtuose Allegro con brio.
