Dániel Dobos (* 1994) studied with Gyula Fekete and Máté Bella at the Department of Composition of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music. In his violin concerto Sylvanus, he uses the technical repertoire of Transylvanian folk violinists. His piano piece, Drumul dracului, which won the first prize in 2018 at the Béla Bartók World Competition, also focuses on a new interpretation of Transylvanian folk music roots. In Callis stellarum, Dobos set one of the apocalyptic visions by the prophet Isaiah: “For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine.†At the end of the composition, the Hungarian folk song “Csillagok, csillagok†(Stars and Stars) is heard as a kind of hopeful association. Commissioned by the municipality of Debrecen, this piece won the first prize in the youth mixed choir category of the HangKELTO Youth Composition Competition held in 2021.

Its contrasts between cantabile melodiousness and powerfully dramatic passages inspired by the storm and stress movement, combined with highly artistic contrapuntal writing and a brilliant organ solo, make this work a jewel in a wider context than Kraus's church music. It is here published for the first time in a scholarly edition.

This setting of Videntes stellam aims to explore the extremes of emotion surrounding the revelation of Christ. The piece begins by depicting the vision of the star and the journey of the Kings, utilising a bright harmonic language in the organ and emphatic, cascading outbursts of praise from the choir, periodically interrupted by more reflective iterations of the text. Following a final declaration of exaltation and joy, the piece concludes with a peaceful and reverential picture of the giving of gifts to the infant Jesus, fading away as the organ takes up the original theme under the final statement of '... myrrham' from the choir. Suitable for evensongs or concerts throughout the whole of the Advent, Christmas and Epiphany seasons. Videntes stellam was the 2013 winner of the New Music for St Paul's Cathedral Composition Competition.

This SATB divisi concert piece was inspired by those who leave us too soon and reminds us that they live on in our memories. The piece opens with a piano motif establishing the melodic material on which will be developed. Upon the entrance of the voices, a unison melody soon cascades into falling SSA harmonies and echoes. The piece picks up tempo with a rhythmic drive and a TB feature that expands into full choir before going into a developing section that introduces the Latin phrase “Stellae in Aeternum†meaning “Forever with the stars.†A broad musical climax features numerous overlapping independent melodies previously featured before a dramatic final key change and a slow, soft ending.
