André Jolivet (1905-1974) established his love for composition from a young age. This remained throughout his life and he held the post of Professor of Composition from 1966-1970 at Paris Conservatoire. Concerto No. 2 for Trumpet was composed in 1955 and remains highly regarded. Jolivet himself a cellist wished to explore composition for all instruments and therefore has a considerable number of works in all fields. The composer's style is also known for its spirituality and the desire to associate the everyday with the magical and the human with the universal. Jolivet draws on acoustics andatonality as heard in Concerto No. 2 for Trumpet. The piece requires high virtuosic skills due to its expansive use of extended techniques. For all advanced trumpeters Jolivet provides an exciting different piece for the instrument's repertoire.

Sarabande Et Finale is a nice piece by Raymond Gallois Montbrun for Bb or C Trumpet and Piano accompaniment. Quite difficult this piece is great for recitals or concert. Starting with the Piano for just six measures before the Trumpet Solo the sarabande has a slow tempo. The finale is faster Allegro and features a period with solo Piano before evolving into Vivo. It features the score and parts for Bb or C Trumpet. Raymond Gallois Montbrun (1918-1994) was a French violinist and composer who won the Premier Grand Prix de Rome and the Grand Prix de Paris. He later became the director of the ParisConservatoire. He composed many symphonic pieces an opera a quartet and many pieces for Solo Piano Violin and Piano and other instruments.

Rustic by Eugène Bozza (1905-1991) is one of the most well-known and enjoyable pieces for Trumpet and Piano published in 1955. Technically and musically challenging you must be able to master vibrato and control your instrument. The Piano score was initially written for a brass quintet.Eugène Bozza won different prizes at the Conservatoire de Paris such as the First Prizes for the Violin conducting and composition as well as the Grand Prix de Rome. Born in Nice Bozza (1905-1991) went on to study at the Paris Conservatoire winning prizes for the violin conducting and composition as well as the Grand Prix de Rome. His capability clearly comes across in his Caprice for Trumpet and Piano through thrilling semiquaver flourishes and energetic scalic descents beautifully contrasted by expressive lento passages. Bozza'sCaprice is essential to all advanced trumpeter's repertoire.

Malcolm arnold's concerto for Trumpet was commissioned by the Arts Council of Great Britain for the 100th Anniversary of the founding of the Royal College of Music. Trumpeter John Wallace was the soloists at the first performance in the Royal Albert Hall on 30 January 1983.

Composed by Joseph Edouard Barat Orientale was written for Bb Cornet or C/Bb Trumpet and Piano. Written for intermediate players this piece is inspired by oriental and Arabic music. The beginning is an exchange between the instruments with the Piano starting on its own. After this short exchange the Cornet and Piano play together. Well composed and very lyrical this piece is really enjoyable and could be perfectly used for recital or contests. Joseph Edouard Barat (1882-1963) composed numerous pieces for winds and Piano accompaniment such as 'Andante and Allegro' or 'Introduction and Dance' amongmany others.

This edition is more user-friendly than the others currently available. The accompanying CD provides piano accompaniments as well as samples from recordings of the Neruda Haydn and Hummell concerti with kind permission of Hyperion Records and Crispian Steele-Perkins.J.G.B. Neruda (1711-1780) was typical of 18th century musicians travelling and studying in various parts of Eastern Europe and finally settling in Dresden (1750-1780) in the Electoral (chapel) orchestra where he was salaried as a violinist and occasional composer. This concerto was originally composed for a Corno da Caccia (hunting horn) presumed to be something of a hybrid between the natural hornand natural trumpet but has been borrowed by modern trumpet players and is now firmly fixed in the Classical trumpet repertoire.This edition is intended to be more user-friendly than the others currently available: there is a much easier (and dare I say more stylistic) piano accompaniment - any doubling of the solo part has been removed voicing simplified and my premise has been to imagine what it might have been before it was orchestrated rather than trying to cram in every last piece of orchestral detail. Suggested cuts have been indicated which give a short introduction to each movement perfect for auditions recitals or exams. However the bar numbers still tally with the longer original versions which are included should they be required.The dynamics and articulation which I have added incorporate the weight of opinion in current editions and recordings offering more guidance than 'scholarly' editions without being over-prescriptive. There is an appendix with suggested interpretation of trills. Listening to as many different recordings as possible is the best way to assimilate good trills.
