N007: Polka du Rossignol-Raymond Gallois Montbrun (1918-1994) published his Les Rêves De Janceline for Alto Saxophone and Piano in 1947 just three years after he won the Grand Prix de Rome. Along with his Violin Concerto 'Japan' Symphony and Concertstück for Clarinet and Piano  Les Rêves De Janceline for Violin and Piano remains popular to this day. Les Rêves De Janceline for Violin is made up of twelve easy pieces in variety of styles the seventh of these being The Nightingale's Polka. This movement addresses harmonics a modulation and articulation amongother aspects. As suitable and varied pieces for the progression of beginner to intermediate level violinists Gallois Montbrun's Les Rêves De Janceline cannot be missed.

The violin pupil can be accompanied either by the violin teacher (as a violin duet) or with piano. The optional alternative piano accompaniments are by Heidi Rolfe.'I can still remember the thrill I felt as a child of 8 when my violin teacher introduced me to my first concertino. Learning playing and eventually mastering the famous Küchler Concertino in D major made me feel privileged and grown-up as if I were joining a very special club.That was a long time ago yet for me concertinos still hold a distinctive place in the teaching repertoire. Having now taught the violin for the last thirty years and seen how happily my pupils respond to learningduets - that distinctive sense of enjoyment at playing with an adult the improvement of intonation and tone production the liveliness of the lesson - I have composed three new concertinos inspired by the duet form.Taking three great keys for the violin - G D and A minor I have endeavoured to combine emotionally engaging and technically educational music in the 'Olden Style'. Uniquely I have written a second violin part for the teacher to play alongside their pupil's part and there is also a piano accompaniment for use alternatively in concert settings.I very much hope that these concertinos prove as popular and as helpful as the series of duets in my previously published books Sounds of a Rainbow and that they ignite that sense of wonderment and purpose I experienced while playing the Kuchler all those years ago.'Nigel Goldberg

Violin Concerto In G major is considered to be the earliest of Joseph Haydn?s Violin concertos and was apparently written before he was taken into the service of the Esterházy family. It was firstpublished a century after the Austrian composer?s death in 1909 and was little known before. The concerto is lovely and ingratiating to the ear consisting of 3 movements (Allegro moderato Adagio andAllegro) with a total performance time of under 20 minutes. The unmatched intimacy and loveliness of the uniquely beautiful Adagio and the high spirited final movement with its charming Bagpipe imitation will putplayers and audiences alike in the best of moods from the outset. This Urtext edition provides you with a clear and accurate representation of the composer's original intentions. The Orchestra part is reduced to a Pianoaccompaniment and two copies of the Violin score which is identical to that of the Haydn-Gesamtausgabe are enclosed as separate inserts. Composed by Georges Delerue a French composer specialised in film music Le Le Concerto De L'Adieu is a piece for Violin and Piano accompaniment. Edited by Roberto Cani it lasts 9 minutes. This concerto is part of the original soundtrack of “Dien Bien Phu” (1992) by Pierre Schoendoerffer. It is used in the film for a scene which represents the loss of Dien Bien Phu: a concert is going to happen and while the music starts some sporadic images of the battle are shown. The concert finishes with the audience applauding and the next scene shows some soldiers having their last drink knowing the battle is already lost.The concerto goes through different phases to express what is seen through the images alternating melancholy desperation desolation and the feeling of lost power.
