This popular piece for solo violin and piano has been skillfully arranged by string pedagogue Doris Gazda. A standard piece in the repertoire, it adapts quite well to the string orchestra. This is an excellent piece for an advancing group.A rondo is a musical form that was commonly used by composers from the classical through the romantic music periods. It was often the form used for the last movement of a sonata, a symphony, a concerto or a piece of chamber music.The rondo form consists of a main theme (part A) that recurs with contrasting sections (parts B, C, D and so on) in between. The contrasting sections can change key and can change from major to minor tonality. A typical form of a rondo might be ABACADABA. It is usually written in triple meter, and is lively and joyful in character. Beethoven used the rondo form quite often, and Fritz Kreisler, the famous violinist and composer, found a Beethoven melody and turned it into this “little rondo,†or rondino, written originally for violin and piano.This arrangement for string orchestra can also be played by a small string ensemble. It should be played with a light style of bowing so as to give it a happy, lilting quality.

In 'Metamorphosen' - performed for the first time in March 2008 by Viviane Hagner at a Berlin gala concert marking the 80th birthdayof the composer, only a few weeks before his death - Frank Michael Beyer refers to Scriabin's Piano Sonata No. 6 from 1911, a work the motivic and thematic penetration of which ahead of the serial technique had fascinated Beyer since his student days. Based on a scale found in Scriabin's works, Metamorphosen contrasts the frequently ecstatic nature of the piano setting with the linearity of the solo violin. The strict structure is contrasted by the music's free character which Scriabin himself described as 'volando - flying'.

Suite in Three Movements (2021) for harpsichord was commissioned by Scott Hyslop. The three movements take their inspiration and forms from early models. They combine allusions to common practice harmony with later harmonic and rhythmic elements. The first movement, Concerto, is in a bright, Italianate manner (not without a bit of humor). The animating contrast is between ripieno (ritornello) sections and filigree-driven solo episodes. The second movement, Arioso, is a lyric aria in which the baroque-like principal material is integrated with more varied harmonic excursions. The cantata Daran erkennen wir, dass wir in Ihm bleiben is intended for the first Whitsun holiday. It is based on a text by Johann Christoph Wentzel (1659-1723), the yearly volume in which it appears dates to August 4, 1703 and is dedicated to, among others, Hn. Joh. Kuhnau / | Chori Musici bey der | Stadt Leipzig Directori [Herr Joh. Kuhnau / Director of Choral Music at the City of Leipzig]. It can be assumed that Kuhnau's composition originated near the time of the text, thus within his first years in office as the Leipzig St. Thomas cantor. Kuhnau follows the structure of Wentzel's poem in a Dictum and four verses with introductory sonata, although some details are varied. In comparison to other works by Kuhnau, the scoring is fairly large with five vocal parts, trumpets, timpani, oboes, and bassoon as well as two violins and violas each. “Composed in 1978 by Henri Dutilleux, Timbres, Space, Movement is a work for Orchestra, also named ?The starry night? after a painting by Van Gogh. It was commisioned by Mstislav Rostropovich for the National Symphony Orchestra of Washington and is dedicated to Charles Münch. This great orchestral work lasts approximately 20 minutes and depicts the content of the painting. It is written for a full orchestra without Violins or Violas. A sketch of the placement of the instruments is given in the book as its disposition differs from a full orchestra: The Cellos placed in a half-circle in front of the conductor. The Cellos represents the space with twirling solos and more stagnant sections while the lack of Violins and Violas is for the quiet and motionless part of the painting. The solo of the Winds and Drums characterizes the clouds and the light of the moon and the stars. It is divided in two parts: 1. Nébuleuse (Nebula) and 2.Constellations, which are divided by a Cello interlude. Henri Dutilleux was internationally acclaimed for his work winning prizes such as the Gold Medal of the Royal Philharmonic Society and the UNESCO's International Rostrum of Composers, amongst many others. His work also includes a Piano sonata, two symphonies, the Violin concerto 'L'arbre des songes' (The tree of dreams) and the Cello concerto 'Tout un monde lointain' (A whole distant word).â€.

Kuhnau's Magnificat in C major is - apart from his Biblical Sonatas - considered to be his most ambitious and best known work. However, as recent research has revealed, there are indeed many other large-scale works among his oeuvre which are largely presumed lost today, apart from those that were published as first editions. Until now, only insufficient or erroneous editions of the Magnificat have been available, a piano reduction has not been available at all. Beyond that, editor David Erler has succeeded in tracking down new evidence on the authorship of four Laudes (insertion movements for performances over Christmas) and to carry out their altogether new placement in the main work. He was able to prove that Bach's Magnificat directly succeeded Kuhnaus's work and that the use of such Laudes was common in Leipzig's parish churches and beyond.
